Today, the San Jose Mercury News ran a story about Doug Murray on the front page of the sports section.  http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/sports/hockey/nhl/san_jose_sharks/13355889.htm

The Uber Tap, I love it.  An NHL career and a business partner for a company that helps us all draw our beer more efficiently.  You go Doug....

Florida at San Jose tonight.
Hopefully Doug will take it easy on Joe.

Joe couldn't be more different than Doug as a player.  Last night at the end of the Stars game (they lost 4-3, Dallas scored with about 15 secs left), Gary Roberts went flying into the offensive zone with about 5 seconds and just about checked a Stars player through the boards (looked like at was from behind) right at the end of game buzzer.  A fracas of course ensues and Joe kind of stands there looking like he wants none of it - in fact it looked like he was trying to just get off the ice and leave his team.  But he's still no ordinary Joe.....and he's tough when it counts.  Good luck to both alumni (I'm assuming Doug takes that pesky final hotel class!!).

Oh man...is it at all possible that someone has Murray's hit on Holik that the Mercury News article alludes to? I would love to see that...

I still remember with fondness the first time, in his freshman year, that someone tried to line up Doug and ended up on their back.

There was a large photo of Stephen Baby in today's Des Moines Register as the Chicago Wolves played the Des Moines Stars.  I can't find the photo online anyplace.  Baby had 5 shots and 2 PIM as the Stars defeated the Wolves 3-2 in a shootout.

Anyone know if it is a copyright violation to take a digital picture of the newspaper photo and post it here?

an arizona republic article about leneveu[/q]If Fuhr and Gretzky are as confident in Lenny's readiness to be playing in the NHL as this article (as well as others) suggests, then I wouldn't be surprised to see them try to trade Boucher once he's had a few starts (i.e. enough time to show that he's healthy and not suffering any lingering effects from his injury).  Too many teams have zero quality goaltenders for Phoenix to hold on to three, especially considering the holes the Coyotes have elsewhere in their lineup.

Good point.  I had been thinking that at least if Lenny goes back to the AHL for a while he will get a lot more playing time than he will behind Cujo, possibly honing his skills faster.  I hadn't thought of trading Boucher, however.

For instance, the Blues waived Patrick Lalime today.  When even he's not good enough, you're really desperate for goaltending help.

Coyotes G Brian Boucher, out with a pulled groin since Phoenix's first preseason game, was recalled from San Antonio of the AHL after a two-week conditioning stint. Boucher, who set an NHL record with five consecutive shutouts in 2003-04, was 2-2 with a 1.18 goals-against average for the Rampage. David LeNeveu, 2-5-2 with a 3.20 GAA in nine games, was sent to San Antonio to make room for Boucher.

With Kyle McLaren scratched last night following knee surgery, Doug Murray and defense partner Scott Hannan were responsible for shutting down Alexander Ovechkin.  Doug did very well.

[Q] Should it be Murray-strom?
"Murray" is a ubiquitous hockey name -- you have your Bryan Murrays, your Rem Murrays, even your Murray Armstrongs, to name just a few.
But San Jose defenseman Doug Murray is a little different -- how did a guy from Sweden end up with a name like that? He said his Scottish ancestors relocated to Sweden centuries ago.
"It's been three or four hundred years," Murray told the San Jose Mercury News. "If it makes anything better, my mom's maiden name is Bjorn." [/Q]
