...the latest issue of USCHO Magazine has a solo picture of your Hobey-nominated 'tender on the cover.

Drop me an e-mail if interested and I'll send it along, sans mailing label.

Why do people remove mailing labels before discarding their magazines/newspapers (office delivered WS Journal) on the train or in an airport lounge but typically not when leaving them in an airplane seatback? If you're private in all your dealings, this makes sense. A couple days ago on a commuter train, a passenger with her ear glued to the cellphone gassed on and on about her boyfriend and why he hasn't popped the queston (can't get a word in edgewise would be one guess) ... and then before she gets off the train, she carefully rips off the corner of her Elle or Vogue before leaving it on the train seat.

If someone has the account information, they can change it (such as have it sent elsewhere) or have access to other account information that may go along with it.  Also the idea that some strange person has your name and address is kinda creepy.  You wouldn't want to leave any of your other pieces of mail laying around, would ya? ;-)

Check with a publishing professional - yes, that's one of those terms that screams oxymoron - and you'll find there is precious little personal information linked to your mailing label. Assuming you could call up and get it. For the few people who have credit #s on file, it's typically separated, and even if it's not, why go to all that trouble to steal one card # when you can get lists of hundreds of valid #s for a couple dollars?

Unless people run their un-kept mail through a shredder, they're making it accessible to anyone skilled in dumpster diving.

I think the point, bill, was that you could call up and have the mailing address changed or the service cancelled altogether, i.e. someone could steal you subscription, at least temporarily. I don't think CC # was the issue. Nonethless, your post was still entertaining ;)

Oh, I forgot to mention that I had a muscle spasm in my arm while looking at the cover and the end result was a detached mailing label. Does that fly?

Anyway, the issue will be on its way to Canastota this week...

Why bother calling?  Many magazines offer online subscription services.

I guarantee you, none of them could technically be classified as magazines. :-D
