Who cares about basketball anyway?!?

I figured since I know little to nothing about college basketball, and everyone participates in those tournament brackets for March Madness, it's high time there be one for the NCAA hockey tournament!

It's free, and registration is simple.  Just pick a username / login and password, enter the password for confirmation, and you're ready to go!  Register and make your picks at:

http://beaker.bones.org/ncaa/

Once you login you can make your picks anytime up until the start of the first game, Friday March 25th, 4:30pm EST.

Let me know if you have any troubles, and have fun!  Let's Go RED!

P.S.  Feel free to invite anyone you'd like to join the pool.   The more the merrier!

I wasn't planning on posting, but I don't have any objections if you'd like to extend the offer.

Give a little bit of time though, as the kinks are still being worked out, like brackets that are different from USCHO's.  (You'll have to pick again, sorry -- it's hopefully right now.)  End of the day is fine with me.

Thanks.

UPDATE!

Sorry for those of you that logged in and made picks -- it turns out the USCHO bracket was incorrect, in terms of which regions match up in the semis.

ESPN and NCAASports both had a different bracket, so I adjusted the site to use that one.     I removed the picks for those people that made them, so if you were one of the early adopters, log back in and make sure you pick with the revised bracket!

Thanks, and sorry again.

Is there any way that more than just the top ten people (which of course right now doesn't matter) can be displayed in the standings?
Is next year here yet?

Beaker

Yep -- that makes sense.  I was of course worried about people having to download the huge page when tens of thousands had registered.   But seeing as we're at 44 at the moment, I don't see why we can't show them all.

Done!

Will we be able to view everyone else's picks once the tourney starts?

Neat stuff  - just put my pick's  in -  :-)

Note to WOOFING gods:  be kind to these delirious Big Red fans  they  mean well  -   I promise to throw you sacrificial  M&Ms every day for a year;   if you don't hold any optimism against these gentle people!

From what I hear, that's the way these things go, so sure, why not.  Once the picks are closed at the start of the first game, the standings page names will link to their picks.

Of course, this is all providing I get a chance to write that in by friday. :-)

Can we get a stats page showing the consensus champion picks? Shouldn't be that hard. Thanks.

Beaker

No, not that hard to do, but it would be irresponsible to put up such a statistical summary with less than 100 data points!

But seriously, that was already in the works after I was done with the "real work" for the day.

And now, it is up.

On the standings page, there is also a summary of who was picked to win it all.   Not surprisingly, CU is in the lead.  But a warning, if I go over to USCHO and open up the pool, that might change.

At the very least, as of now with 101 people, thanks to whomever voted for Bemidji State to go all the way -- that made Harvard appear at the very bottom of the list. :-)

Keep 'em comin!

Just a gentle reminder, the poll closes at 4:30 tomorrow! (Friday)

Get your picks in before then.  There are still 47 undecided at this point that need to be votes for CU!

Go RED!

Congratulations to the winners, and much thanks to everyone for participating!

With almost 200 people registering, and about 150 people actively participating, my first Frozen Four bracket contest has concluded.  The top 10 (or 12 as it were):

T-1st (25): chips
T-1st (25): msemisch
3rd (24): arejay27
T-4th (23): CUlater '89
T-4th (23): Drew '0something
T-4th (23): jonathank
T-7th (22): Ben Ross
T-7th (22): bobbo
T-7th (22): Josh
T-7th (22): mikegberg
T-7th (22): TGDMM
T-7th (22): Treborium

Check out all the standings and your place in line at http://beaker.bones.org/ncaa/standings.html

Thanks again for playing, and tune in next year, as I'll definitely do this again, have more participants, and hope that the half of us that were wrong about a particular pick to win it all will be right. :-)
