I was trolling around a little using the eLF search to see what's been talked about it recently (and not so recently).

I saw a reference to the 10-9 UNH victory over CU at the 1977 ECAC semi's in the Gahden. That game was probably the most exciting Cornell hockey loss I've ever seen. For one thing, it seemed like everyone except the ushers had a goal in that game.  For another, it wasn't against BU - which owned us during my undergrad days. When BU came to play us, their power play was so good I thought the Bruins had borrowed the Terriers uniforms for the night. The Red had a terrible time stopping the BU pp.

So I went to Boston in '77 after 3 years of unsuccessful trips to the ECAC's with a ray of sunshine that we were playing "not BU" in the first round and that we had a very good chance of beating the 'cats. UNH had a massive contingent of fans, as did CU, of course, so it was a fantastic crowd.

Cornell was a hell of a scoring machine and it wasn't crazy to think that we'd score a bunch of goals and beat them. But both defenses evidently drank the same kool aid and we got an amazing show.

Right up until they scored in OT, I thought CU would be winning the game.

I'm writing about the most exciting loss because the '79 Providence game has been discussed extensively, so I'm told. I happen to have WHCU's 3 minute audio report of the game (it's slightly under 2Mb) which includes Roy Ives' call of the tying and winning goals. Would there be a place on eLynah for that?

And on that note, does anyone else celebrate "Randy Wilson Day" the first weekend in March. :-)

I'd love to hear Roy Ives' report on that Providence game.  I recently found my Ithaca Journal clipping from the next day -- a great way to relive that joy!

Roy Ives...now we're talkin'.

I'd love to hear it, too.  Since I was at the game, I never heard the broadcast.

Here's another piece of trivia from that game:  The quote of the day in the Sun the morning after the game was "We got it!  We got it!" attributed to a Providence player as Randy Wilson skated down on the empty net.  :-D :-D :-D

I loathe to say this - because it could be 2 years away from happening - but there may actually be the possibility of creating a DVD of this game (from poor B&W coaches video - but good enough) with Roy Ives' call on it.

I've warned you that it may be far off :) ... but I thought it would be cool to let you know the possibility exists.

I'd never admit how much I'd pay for something like that, Adam. It's too good to be true. For me, playing that DVD would be like melting All Things Good About Childhood and Lynah into a spoon and injecting it into a vein.

The flipside: I have a tape recording of Roy's call of the 1973 NCAA semi against Wisconsin floating around my parents' house somewhere.

Playing them back to back would sorta be like doing Cornell hockey speedball.

Hillel - if you find that - let me know.
