Pittsburgh traded Billy Tibbetts to the Flyers for Kent Manderville.

I thought this was a "Kent and Kim have a kid" reference.

Cool!  I'm a big Pens fan, so it's cool have have a Cornell alum on their roster.  :)  Now, if they could only make a trade for Nieuwy, we'd have something!

Brunke

true jordan, you would ahve something, but now you have less than something after trading kasperitis to colorado.....

everyone knows hockey here : am i the onyl rangers fan who thinks getting pure was NOT a wise move?

Disagree with you, Matt.  They gave up not a whole lot.  Novak isn't yet at the NHL level, and isn't their top prospect at defense.  Ulanov is giving up less than nothing.  Giving up a first round pick is vastly preferable to giving up York, as the speculation was.  The main knock is that Bure doesn't play defense; while he's a one-way player, yes, he doesn't HURT the defense any, I don't think, at least not compared to the rest of their forwards who don't play defense.  If they'd given up Kloucek to get him, I'd feel differently.  As it is, yes, their defense needs improvement, and I'd like to see them make a run for Poti if that's still an option.

Oops, guess I should've checked the news before I posted that.  Get up from your desk for ten minutes and what happens?  The Rangers trade Mike York and a 4th round pick to Edmonton for Tom Poti and Rem Murray.

Do the Rangers have any centers left? sheesh

Sure, but they're all hurt.  Well, just Messier and Lindros are hurt.  Nedved is healthy and plans to play all 60 minutes of tonight's game.  :-))

Let's see. Playing. For Nedved that would constitute skating slow circles near the bench, right?

Oh, you're one of THOSE.  :-P

Nedved hasn't produced as much as we'd all like, but his line combination has been getting switched all year after Hlavac got traded away in the offseason.  Ciger, Barnaby, Grosek, Fleury, Rucinsky, MAKE UP YOUR MIND!  And now Dvorak's out.  Whee.

Oh you're one of THOSE! It's not like they're putting you and me in as his linemates. He hasn't been exerting himself at all (except for the last few games, to be fair) and he can't hit the side of a zamboni this year. And considering he won't cough up the puck if you beat it out of him with a... zamboni... what does it matter who he's ignoring on the ice? Ultimately you score goals, not your linemates.

Just another in the long line of underachieving blueshirts. Nedved, Grosek, Robitaille, Kamenski, John McLean, Amonte, Kovalev, Bure (?)...

I wouldn't say many of the names you listed didn't underachieve with the Rangers, Kovalev especially.  (To be fair to McLean, he was, like, 85 years old when he played for the Rangers.)  But if you think he's a puck hog, I have to disagree with you...  I've always had the gripe that he and Dvorak and Hlavac (or whatever third European player they've been with) pass the puck too much rather than take shots.  (Though to be fair, I see your point about skating with the puck rather than dumping it, as is commonly said of many European players.)

That would make Nieuwy 85 now, too.

OK, my bad then, he's younger than I realized.  But I do think they knew he was past his prime when they picked him up.  (I mean, he WAS.  He didn't produce a lot and he got hurt.)

He's not a slouch...more like a BUM!

He's the softest 6' 4" player I've ever seen.  An he seemingly wants to play only with other Czechs...so Bure's a bad fit on his line! ::rolleyes::   How a guy with as much talent as Nedved does not score 40 a year is a tragedy.

Neither ever backchecks...this will be fun!

As to the other names...unfair to say Amonte underachieved...he was traded at the deadline to get "grittier" forwards...Noonan and Matteau.  His all around game developed with Chicago but he played well in New York for a rookie.

Kovalev...maybe...he needed to get away from New York.

Kamensky is a bum.  Rucinsky could be also.
