I think they just had general typos regarding 02-03 or just omitted it entirely; they listed Cornell as winning the ECAC Championships in the 2001-2002 season.

[Q]Member of East Coast Athletic Conference-champion Cornell University, 2001-02.[/Q]

Unless that refers to the fact that they made an appearance in the championship game...?

I dunno.  Mistakes will be made... what can ya do... *shrug*

I suspect they were referring to the winner of the Cleary pisspot.

On January 18, 2004, David was ejected from the Springfield-Lowell (AHL) contest for fighting Patrick DesRochers.

Beat the crap out of the opponent's goalie, how great is that.

Is there an article about it?  I remember reading the boxscore and seeing he got 17 minutes, but that's all...

Doesn't say much about it, but anyhow...

Too bad.  I'd actually like to see a broadcast of that game -- just to see what would cause two players (who have little to no interaction, as far as I've ever seen) to fight.

Anyone have a good feel for how seriously minor league hockey teams (specifically AHL)  take the playoffs?  What I'm getting at is, would the team drop Bâby down to fourth line in favor of another guy because they felt it gave them the best short chance of winning the championship, even if he was a better long term prospect than the other guy?  The playoffs may be considered less of a development situation. Thoughts?[/q]

I grew up in Rochester and later lived near Springfield. People took the Calder Cup very seriously then. There was a near riot when the Springfield then-Indians won circa 1980. So, yes, dropping a prospect down to fourth line and letting a fading but currently superior veteran play more, that'd make sense to the fans.

Maybe a bit less seriously now that sports TV 7/24 brings you closer to the NHL.

And a photo with the bio. I've seen DUI arrest pictures with more grace and vibrancy.

Those signing WHA contracts aren’t likely to break the bank â€" team payrolls will be capped at $15 million, with an additional $5 million set aside for what the league terms a “premier” player. The expectation is teams will use that cash to attract aging NHL stars in search of a final big payday. The name mentioned most frequently is former Minnesota-Duluth standout and future Hall of Famer Brett Hull, whose father, Bobby, is the new league’s commissioner. Others rumored to be considering a move to the WHA include Cornell alum Joe Nieuwendyk and ex-Wisconsin star Chris Chelios. All three are unrestricted free agents.

interesting...

The latest rumor about Nieuwendyk on Hockey Night in Canada is that he and Gary Roberts are trying to find a deal as a pair.  The HNIC commentator said that a young team looking for an infusion of character from some classy veterans couldn't ask for better.  Damn straight.

Looks like Nieuwendyk (and Roberts) will both be staying put in Toronto. Now let's hope they'll actually be playing next season.

[Q]Maple Leafs re-sign Belfour, Roberts, Nieuwendyk and Berg
TORONTO (AP) - The Toronto Maple Leafs re-signed goalie Ed
Belfour, forwards Joe Nieuwendyk, Gary Roberts and defenseman Aki
Berg on Wednesday.
Belfour, Roberts and Nieuwendyk could have become unrestricted
free agents if they weren't signed before midnight.
Roberts agreed to a one-year deal with a base salary of $3.75
million, $500,000 less than he made last season. Nieuwendyk signed
a one-year, $3 million contract, $1 million more than last year.
"Throughout our discussions there was never any doubt that the
Maple Leafs wanted to keep them in Toronto," said Rick Curran, the
agent for both players. "They want to keep the core intact."

Nieuwendyk, who had 22 goals and 28 assists in 64 games last
season, has won titles with New Jersey, Calgary and Dallas.
Roberts had 28 goals and 20 assists with 84 penalty minutes last
season. He is one of only six players in NHL history to score 350
goals and amass 2,000 penalty minutes.[/Q]
