Thanks to Ryan Vesce for being the epitomy of class and hardwork.  He truly will be remember as one of the best Cornell Captains ever.  His hard work, relentlessness, humble attitude, and leadership is something that all players should aspire for.

Thanks to Ben Wallace for filing the void left by last years assistant captains.  He did a great job in secondary leadership behind Vesce and was one of the classiest players on the ice, day-in-day out.

We all wish you best of luck in the future.

With that said, it is time for these two great hockey players to pass the torch on.  Here are my suggestions:

Mike Knoepfli, Captain -- he played relentless and inspired hockey this entire season, especially against Clarkson, and his leadership should be rewarded.

Jeremy Downs, Assistant Captain - a silent force on the blue line.  Downs is a workhouse and quite possibly the most underrated defenseman in the ECAC.

THANK YOU CLASS OF 2004.

Greg Berge

Excellent choices, both.  I would go with Cook, too.

I think Iggulden should be captain.  He put in more effort the last few weeks than anyone.  Tonight, he worked his ass off until the final buzzer.  The guy battled to be in the lineup in the beginning of the season, but really took off in the second half.  One of Cornell's best players this year in my opinion.  Agreed that Downs should get the A.

I'd love for all of Knoepfli, Cook, Downs, and Iggy to get captain or assistant captain roles.  I guess it's not outside the realm of possibility for all four to be given the 'C's and 'A's.  I have a personal preference for Knoepfli, though, and hope he gets at least one of the 'C's.

One would think that Hornby would have gotten an A this year

Maybe not if one believed Hornby would have spent a lot of time in the box.  Of course, I don't think Hornby needs a 'C' or an 'A' to get the team going.

Come on, were you guys watching the same team I was watching?

Hornby flat out sucked this year.  I was a huge Hornby fan last year, but this year he tried to clean up his game a little, and in doing so he left behind his physical play.  He was useless.

As for Wallace, I never understood why he was chosen in the first place, but was god awful this year too.

Moreover, I'm not saying Vesce isn't hurt, but he should have been out there yesterday and today.  He was well enough to go out for warmups yesterday, and he is our captain.  These were his last games ever, and he blew it.  I cannot believe that his injury was too serious seeing how he was able to skate yesterday before the game.

I hope next year's captains will not let our team down like Wallace and Vesce did this year.  There were a lot of younger guys looking for leadership from winners, and clearly Wallace and Vesce did not provide this leadership.  No wonder they couldn't beat Clarkson.

You are a moron!

Vesce had a concussion and there was no way he could have played you dumbass.  You aren't a Cornell hockey fan, you are a fuckin idiot.  Vesce played hurt for the entire season ... ever since the Brown game in Early December.

Hornby played physical - did you see his hit tonight.  I tried to energize our team so much.

What do you know anyway! ... You weren't in the dressing room, you didn't play with the team.

Get the fuck out of Cornell, Loser!

[/Q]I can't believe that I am responding to this drivel, but I'm responding anyway.

The fucking point is that he couldn't skate before Saturday's game.  As a result of a concussion sustained in game 1 he found himself too dizzy to skate effectively.  My guess is that telling the coaches that he couldn't continue was among the hardest things he has ever had to do.

You are a contemptible piece of shit, GaRR.

I have to believe that Vesce and Vesce alone will be the best judge as to whether or not he can play in any given game.  Being the captain, I'm sure he knew all too well the potential ill effects of his absence from the game, but if he can't play, he can't play.  If he could've been there, he would've been there, but he just couldn't do it for whatever reason.  Don't hate the guy for it.

It's a little fruitless for us to speculate on this as fans, since we're not privy to what goes on inside the locker room.  The team knows much better than we who their leaders are.

Is it possible for vesce to dress and be on the bench, even if he doesnt play? i think him just being there would've helped.

Good point, John.  I still have an affinity for Knoepfli, but I have to imagine the team and Schafer know who would be best to wear the 'C's and 'A's next year.

Back to the topic of this thread ...

... though I'm not in the locker room, from what I've seen on the ice I'd vote for Hynes to be a captain (despite being a junior) and Downs / Cook to be assistants.

I'm pretty sure we're limited to the number of players dressed even if they don't play.
