Those directions only cover once you get to town.  Best way to get to exit 24 is take Rt. 79 leaving Ithaca.  At Whitney Point, get onto Route 206.   Follow that until you reach Bainbridge where you get onto I-88 E which you follow to the end through the toll booth and onto I-90 E (it's exit 25A) and follow I-90E for 2 exits to exit 24.  Should take about 3.5 hours to get all the way to RPI if you follow posted speed limits reasonably well.

You can probably do it in 2.5 or so. Just watch out for troopers on 88. They hang out in weird places (entrance/exit ramps, overpasses, etc.).

East till you smell it.  North till you step in it.

Has anyone ever actually seen one of those state police aircraft they purport to use in all those signs on I-88?

Is next year here yet?

I got to Union in about 2:15 once.  I was very proud.  :-D

Never seen an aircraft.  I imagine they want to maximize their return on writing tickets, so they just let the cars handle it and don't bother with expensive aircraft.

The threat of aircraft may slow some people down.  So if you're the state police you put up some signs, fly one plane once so you're not lying about it and take advantage of psychology.

Places to eat in Troy:

The Plum Blossum, Chinese - with nice interior architecture, 685 Hoosick Road (route 7), Troy

Famous Lunch, mini chili dogs - a "famous" but entertaining joint, 111 Congress Street (route 2), Troy

Cafe Therese, family eating (veal chicken seafood), 720 Hoosick Road (route 7), Troy

Ali Baba, Turkish food, 2243 15th Street (between route 2 and route 7 almost on the RIP campus), Troy

Notty Pine, pizza and Italian, 2301 15th Street (near Ali Baba), Troy

I'll be at the Notty Pine...they have a bar feel but still have a separate "dining room" and GREAT pizza...plus it's only two blocks from the rink

24 is the devil

Yup. Averaging about 80 the whole drive should be around 2:15 (my usual time). Since I've been living in Albany for the past 2.5 years I've done this trip a lot!

How long does it take when you get stopped along the way by a man in a car with a flashing red light on his car ::uhoh:: ?

;-)

See you all at the game.

They do use aircraft on occasion on I-88.  Every now and then on I-88 you will notice painted lines on the road that are not parallel to the lane markings.  Usually there is one little stub on each side of the road.  A certain defined distance after the first set of markings, there will be another set.  Based on basic mathematics, the driver's average speed can be calculated between the two sets of road markings (can be done in the aircraft).
