2027 Cornell men's lacrosse thread

2027 lacrosse schedule
https://cornellrams.com/sports/mens-lacrosse/schedule/2027?grid=true  <-- Okay, that's the Cornell College schedule. Cornell U will post at some point.

We do know Cornell plays Syracuse Sunday March 7, neutral site (Dallas, hosted by SMU, see next item on thread) and UNC Friday March 5

Cornell, Princeton, Syracuse and North Carolina play in the Corrigan Sports Lonestar Classic — two Ivy and two ACC teams. It's Friday and Sunday, March 5 & 7. The Ivies play the ACC teams: Cornell plays North Carolina Friday, Syracuse Sunday; Princeton does Syracuse then UNC.

USA :Lacrosse's Way Too Early Pre-Season Poll has the foursome at
2. North Carolina
3. Princeton
6. Cornell
13. Syracuse
Notre Dame is ranked No. 1.

SMU is the host school, or site. Southern Methodist begins Division 1 NCAA lacrosse play in 2028. The program is reported to be self-funded, ie no university money. Princeton HC Matt Madalon just turned down an offer to coach SMU. Given that Maryland HC John Tillman '91 (Cornell '91) makes $450,000, SMU is probably offering serious money on the high side of $250K to step into an (obviously) buildlng season. .

And this via Inside Lacrosse:
>>> "The event, presented by FiveStar, is made more intriguing because of SMU's announcement that it is adding men's DI lacrosse. And more than that, with its intention to target a large swath of Ivy League transfers, there will be several players participating for Cornell and Princeton that will have made commitments to the Mustangs in 2028 and will be the first time they play on that campus."

(This speaks to non-Ivy schools that can offer 5 years of play over 5 years, versus the Ivy League's four-and-done. OTOH Cornell does offer a pro-track-to-affluence program called the Johnson School.)

Lol, what a joke. I'm done with college lacrosse after this season, and will return to it if and only if the Ivy does away with the ban on grad student eligibility.

Yeah, I'm just not interested in rooting for a team if it's impossible to compete

I don't think about it all that often either, but I expect we'll all be thinking about it much, much more in the coming years when we are no longer nationally competitive. If you love the game of lacrosse, by all means keep watching. But I don't really see the point of watching as a Cornell fan if we can't win anymore.

we are literally one year removed from a national title. i am not unaware of the shifting landscape of college sports but we've never been able to play grad students and we've always operated under high-falutin' academic priorities. when you started rooting for cornell sports those were the conditions.

i respect your opinions because i think they're thoughtful and informed but the agony aunt schtick is exhausting! we are all aware of the potential for doom but soldier on in the face of it because it doesn't fucking matter that much to any individual game or season. there are times for thinking about the forest and time for the trees. once the games start? that's tree time.
