Flames broadcast did a nice job of highlighting Castagna pre-game and then also interviewed him coming off the ice at the end of the first.  When the broadcast was tossed back to the booth, they praised his "mature interview."

Great to have 2 Cornellians starting their NHL careers. A downer though is Malinski was a healthy scratch. Apparently Bernard was ticked off by a bad defensive play he made against the Jets and said that Malinski has been off to a slow start this year. After the great year he had last year hard to believe Malinski was given so little margin for error.

It's wheels within wheels.  Public statements are strategic; apparently that's (thought to be) motivational due to other factors.  We'll never know.

Did they add the mandatory "those Ivy league kids are smart"?

Better than making other recent newsworthy connections with Cornell.
Is next year here yet?

Malott had the primary assist on each of the Ducks' first two goals.  It was his first multi point game as an NHLer.  The first was a partial breakaway that got stopped but the rebound was put in.  The second he made a nice defensive play and then took off, drew the defender and put the puck on a tee.  Nice speed on both plays.  Maybe he's not just a grinder in this league

I've always believed Malott had NHL talent. Glad to see he's being given a real chance to play. Neat seeing 3 Cornellians in the same NHL game

Trying to think if we've ever had 4.  Don't think so unless I'm being an idiot.

I met his parents in Lake Placid.  Great people!  I wish Jonathan a long and productive career.  He is an excellent Cornell hockey ambassador.

Rangers' Shesterkin done for the year with injury.

Their goalie room looks a little like this:

Shesty [out for year]
Korpisalo [out for 4 weeks, not practicing]
Garand [who they put on waivers like 2 weeks ago]
Martin [pretty sure he's hurt too]
Tung

Keopple might yet become the third Cornell product to debut this year 🫣
