Even though the volleyball team lost tonight to Penn, Cornell sits alone on top of the Ivy standings with a 6-1 record.
Cornell was picked fourth in the preseason poll, and already has defeated the three teams picked to finish ahead of them, including a dramatic road win at Princeton Friday night.
Hopefully, Cornell can continue to play well the second half of the Ivy season and earn the top seed for the Ivy tournament.

With two weekends left in the regular season, Cornell is alone in first place with an 8-2 record. Cornell was upset by a 4-6 Dartmouth team this past Friday.
Cornell closes the season against the four teams in second through fifth place. I would imagine that two wins would be enough to clinch a spot in the Ivy Tournament. If Cornell wins out, of course, it would win the regular season title and clinch the No. 1 seed in the Ivy Tournament.

Princeton edged Cornell for the No. 1 seed in the Ivy League Tournament, which it will host this weekend. Cornell finished 10-4 in the Ivies, one game behind Princeton. Cornell, the No. 2 seed, will play No. 3 seed Yale (also 10-4) in the semifinals Friday. Brown is the No. 4 seed.
Yale cost Cornell a chance at the No. 1 seed when it swept Cornell this past Friday night in New Haven. Cornell swept Yale earlier in the season in Ithaca.

Cornell lost a five-set heartbreaker to Yale in the semifinals Friday night, dropping the deciding set, 15-12.
Even so, it was a good season, and Cornell has made back-to-back trips to Ivy Tournament. The coach, Trudy Vande Berg, who has been here for 10 years, was rewarded earlier this week with a multi-year contract extension.
Reading between the lines, it sounds like Nikki Morgan ordered her to shake up the program last year, so she replaced the entire coaching staff, and the recruiting and game performance has since been better.

It was very competitive throughout. Cornell had seven first set service errors that cost them. I had the match on a second screen last night and the stream just gave out after the fourth set. Sigh. Apparently Yale has never lost an ivy tournament game and this was the first time they were pushed to five.
