Nice article from Jane about Cournoyer. Makes it sound like he wants to stay all four years which is encouraging.
"I'm trying to play pro, obviously. But even when guys play pro their whole life — especially goalies. — at 35, 40 [you] get to a point where your body is over," Cournoyer said. "I could, like, sit on my couch and just do nothing for the rest of my life. But, after hockey, I want to do something. Even if I get to play until 40 — which, obviously, it's my dream — I still want to have something to do after, you know?"
I fucking love this kid.

Another good feature from Jane. I can't tell if this one is trying to say that Walsh will be back again next year or if we should enjoy the time while he's here because he's gone after this season.

But the quote "I'm going to get my degree" is promising.

Like Angello getting his degree?

I'm thrilled the Sun sports department is focusing on features.

Lines like "I value getting my degree"/"my family has always valued education"/"hockey doesn't last forever and you always want a backup plan" are standard fare quotes—-I wouldn't read too much into them.

How can you be negative about this. Angello said he's coming back to get his degree. That's nothing but positive. You really had to stretch it this time.

Try to sit back and enjoy the good things in life. If you look for them, you'll find some, even in today's climate.

At this rate, by the time a guy like Walsh returns to Cornell to finish his degree after a pro career, maybe he'll still have eligibility to play his final NCAA season.

I'm literally just saying that a player saying he wants to earn his degree doesn't indicate much of anything about whether that player will stay four years, which is what others were suggesting.

It was a different poster, not I, who brought up Angello leaving early despite "getting his degree."

Half-full:  Great.  He said he's coming back to get his degree.  Happy to hear that.

Half-empty:  Yeah, right.  He said that, but I doubt he really will.  Typical.

Huh? This conversation is about whether a current player saying he values getting his degree indicates said player will stay four years. It has nothing to do with whether said player actually does value the degree or whether they will come back to complete the degree after their pro career is over.

It's good when players come back to finish their degree, but that has nothing to do with what we're discussing. Also, not sure why you're singling me out when it was another poster who brought up Angello. I didn't say anything about Angello or any other former player.

I think that Angello is a good comparable to Walsh and his situation.  There's a pretty good chance if he has a season similar to either of his first two seasons that he'll turn pro and put off getting his degree when his career is over.  If I were talented enough to get drafted AND smart enough to get into Cornell, I believe I would be considering the same plan.

I agree with you and your reference to Angello made perfect sense. I wonder though if he would make the same decision with the benefit of hindsight. He didn't have much of an NHL career. Meanwhile, Cornell could have really used him in 2019. Sandwiched between two years in which we earned a #1 NCAA seed, the 2019 season saw us lose the ECAC championship in OT on a blown call and saw us miss the frozen four by one game. Cornell really could have used Angello and I'm not sure he benefited at all from leaving early.
