Is Cornell v Dartmouth a trap?

This could be a classic trap game. Dartmouth has won some respect this year and has nothing to lose next weekend except their pride. Meanwhile, Cornell might be lulled into a false sense of security by Dartmouth's history & record. Cornell also might be looking ahead to the ILT & Memorial Day.

IMO, Cornell is much too good for Dartmouth. They could rest all the starters and still win.

But then again, 15 years ago, THIS happened:

QuoteFOXBORO, Mass. – The No. 6 Cornell men's lacrosse team ran into a brick wall, as Dartmouth's Fergus Campbell made a career-high 23 saves to lead the Big Green to an 8-6 upset at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass.

We see upsets pretty much every week.

I think that the senior leaders on this team, after the end of year disappointments of '23 & '24, won't allow this team to have a letdown. With the added incentive of the Kirst record, I expect them to come out smoking on Saturday.

You read "Gillette Stadium" and think, oh, cripe, we lost in the NCAA final four. The game was early April, Cornell had already played a half-dozen games. It was Rob Pannell's sophomore year, he was en route to an All-America and Turnbull (attackman of the year) Award. But he was only one player. Let us assume and trust the game will turn out well for Cornell.

What's the over/under on when Kirst gets the record ??

3 minutes.

I think it will be quick, first or second possession

I'm just hoping the whole team just lets the game come to them, rather than trying to force it to Kirst.  Two or three poorly set up shots and you're suddenly starting the game 0-2.

I'd much rather start the game 5-0 with Kirst not getting anything until 24 minutes in.....to use a random example.

QuoteMen's Lax To Honor Senior Class On Verge of History When Dartmouth Visits Saturday

Following the contest, Cornell will honor its seniors — Michael Bozzi, Danny Caddigan, Andrew Dalton, Christopher Davis, Rory Graham, Alex Holmes, Hugh Kelleher, CJ Kirst, Wyatt Knust, Michael Long, Duke Reeder, Ryan Sheehan, Jayson Singer, Kyle Smith, Antonio Topouzis and Walker Wallace.

What trap? The people who take your money, were one the wagering type, say Dartmouth won't win. Oddsmakers (here Draftkings) believe Cornell will win by 9 points (the favorite is the one with the minus in front), the two teams will score 26 or 27 goals total (so an 18-9 likely final), and the moneyline means a Dartmouth fan putting down $100 would win $2200 if the Big Green win.

That is a massive point spread. If I were a betting man, I believe I'd take the Green.

Exactly. Some Dartmouth die-hard lacrosse fan (assume such exists, for argument's sake), thinks he could afford to lose $100, and he thinks of how often the Green have upset Cornell in Canada's other national sport. For us, we might think "easy money" but realize we'd really hate the off chance of losing $2200.

This written in jest. I see from the NCAA basketball tournament, when they weren't posting 'Scholar Athlete' they were noting you shouldn't take it out on the player just because, like, POTY Cooper Flagg banged the potentially winning shot off the rim, and your stupid bet lost.
