In ECAC hockey, the #1 team plays the earlier game, and now it's just set that way. This gives the 1-seed the opportunity to grab a shower afterward and watch who they'll be playing Sunday. Also 2 more hours of rest.

When it was at Columbia, the late game made it easier for the 1-seed to get more fans there, whether driving from Ithaca or subway up from Wall Street. The coach wants best for the players and that's usually: early game.
