This team really went "why care about pairwise, when winning ecac do trick?"

Quote from: Give My RegardsIf the Big Red does get Michigan State in the NCAA's, it'll be another 30-years-flashback for Coach Schafer, whose first game as Cornell head coach was 11/3/1995 -- at Michigan State.

If you wrote this script - the bookends of repeat titles, then also consider this fact - people would think it was too outlandish or sappy.

Storybook.

I have a couple screenshots of Schafer's celebration tonight, and as Scersk97 pointed out, I've never seen him happier.  I remember in '97, coach was walking around the on-ice celebration holding his infant son.  Today, I watched him wave his family into the team photo. I don't know if he's a grandfather, but there were some babies in there.

The chant "Thank you Schafer" rained down a lot in 1996 and 1997. I hope it was heard again, one last time in that building.

14 ECAC Championships.  One guy has half of them. Two to start, two to finish, 3 more along the way.

299 Losses. Let's keep that from rolling over.

This all I've been thinking about.
How it started: 2 ECAC championships as the #4 and #2 seeds.
How it's going: 2 ECAC championships as the #2 and #6 seeds.
Let's Go RED!

Reminds me of the locker room scene from Ted Lasso.
Let's Go RED!

Denver up 3-0 over Western.  All 3 goals scored in the 2nd.  And they just had a 4th waived off for offsides.

At the risk of getting more personal here than usual... my father (Cornell '60) passed away unexpectedly a few days ago, a week short of his only grandchild's second birthday. dss28 and I briefly considered postponing today's birthday party for Isaac, but a) we'd already postponed, then canceled, his first birthday party last year because he got sick with severe daycare-itis both times it was scheduled, and b) Dad would have hated, I mean absolutely loathed, the idea that his dying should be the reason we had to postpone yet another birthday party for Isaac. So we let everyone know, and to their credit, they all showed up to our building's lounge prepared for a little awkwardness and some random crying fits, but ready to make it a joyous occasion for a little boy who thankfully doesn't yet understand. And that's exactly what it was, right up through 5pm when we fired up the AppleTV for the gradually thinning crowd. We watched the Big Red complete their improbable run of knocking off three higher seeds in a row to win another ECAC title for Coach Schafer's now-extended-remix swansong. Joyous doesn't begin to cover it. Isaac's frequent shouts of "Hockeyball!" and "Bah bo wed!" were the icing on the cupcake. It's a complicated and bittersweet weekend, but as many others have already said, the bookending of 1996 & 1997 (for both of which I was present) with 2024 and 2025 (for both of which I was changing diapers at home) is pretty damn sweet. It's like I've been saying to Daina ever since the beginning of the Yale game two weeks ago: There is no reason in the world we can't win nine games in a row. There certainly wasn't anybody who thought we'd win these last five in a row.

Go ahead, Schafer's boys, I dare you - make our Passover Seder plans complicated, too.

I love this team.
