LOL, my oldest went to Penn State, and you couldn't be more correct.  We made a Sweet 16 in my lifetime.  I'm not nearly that disappointed.

Sometimes faith is indeed rewarded! See you all in Vegas in April!

I saw in the athletics notes before the game that this would not only be the first Lacrosse title since 77, but the first team championship in any sport for Cornell since then. Bask in it, because it doesn't come around often

That's insane. But hasn't polo won several times? They may be club team tho. Too lazy to check

Maybe there's a semantic detail we're not appreciating here, but I'd take it up with the athletics team. The Cornell athletics article on the championship mentions the lack of titles in the first few bodies of the story: https://cornellbigred.com/news/2025/5/26/mens-lacrosse-maryland-recap.aspx.  Could be that Polo does not have wide enough adoption to meet whatever definition they're using, but I'd imagine there's some criteria they're using for this claim.

I am too lazy to look up the details but this is not entirely accurate unless you preface the statement with "NCAA" team championship.  We have at least one polo national championship since the 70's but polo is not an NCAA sport.

Pretty sure the distinction is championships overseen by the NCAA.

I was just looking this up the other day. In terms of non-NCAA national titles for varsity teams, Cornell has won in polo, rowing and women's gymnastics since 1977.

Wasn't aware they weren't overseen by ncaa. Learn something new everyday. Thanks for clarification.

Women's gymnastics has been an NCAA sport since 1982. But what we won was the Usag collegiate nationals. I think it's akin to an invitational.

Why are the polo teams now playing in something called Division 2? I thought there were only about 8 collegiate programs or so. Can we move up to D1?
