You can gamble on swimming?

Notre Dame is suspending its men's swimming time for a year over gambling.

Sports Illustrated broke a story on it today. The NYT / The Athletic reports, "SI reported Thursday that the team created its own sports book to wager on its swimming performances along with other sports, and that a majority of the returning team for the 2024-25 season was believed to have placed bets."

On the upside, it should be noticed that the 2023-24 Notre Dame team finished 10th in the NCAAs, its highest finish ever. Cause / effect?

Many Catholic churches host bingo nights as fundraisers, so maybe the Notre Dame swimmers thought it was OK to gamble.
