Overall a terrific period. Outside of being pinned in our zone on their PP, we dominated and had several good opportunities in additional to O'Leary's goal. Their goal was a fantastic snipe. I think we played more effectively behind the UMD net than at any time last season, and looked more like a vintage Cornell team. Maybe that's what Schafer was referring to.

As an aside, quite the lame crowd for a program that has been the best in college hockey the last decade.

Right? I thought about going (6 hour drive for me), but we've maintained a good amount of COVID nerves, and I wasn't sure I wanted to do an indoor crowd.

Then I see all the empty seats.

All tied up! Hopefully Winter Wallace is ok

GO BIG RED

Winter Wallace may be the best hockey name we've ever had.

Poor shift all around by our top line.

25 seconds, Cornell empty net, and a penalty to UMD.  We'll have a 6 on 4 down 2-3.

Pretty close. UMD 3-2 in game 1. Cornell can't take advantage of a late PP.

UMD's seventh game, Cornell's first.
Cornell outshot UMD. Cornell got the first goal, came back to tie after UMD went up 2-1.
We can survive this loss. Do not want to be swept by a team that is now 3-4.

Oh well. We played a very good team (or what should be a very good team) even, if not more than that, on the road. I think we ran out of steam a little down the stretch, maybe our legs will get better as the season goes on. Also, injury hurts there, though that got both teams.

Go get 'em tomorrow.

Hopefully Wallace is ok, but it didn't look good. Too bad if he's out for awhile, because in just a limited window I really like his game.

On my Firestick the NCHC app that I installed last year is showing highlights without a subscription.  The Friday night game hasn't showed up as of yet.

They are now available.

Weirdly, I can watch the Wisconsin at Duluth archived game for free too.
"When we came off, [Bitz] said, 'Thank God you scored that goal,'" Moulson said. "He would've killed me if I didn't."

Quote from: DafatoneAs always, opposing announcer keeps gushing about how big and defensive we are, when we were one of the top scoring teams last year and surprisingly vulnerable to being outmuscled.
To be fair they have been highly complimentary and have talked about how well coached we are, how we hold to structure, are talented, and play smart.  I have no complaints about these guys, they seem to be sincerely enjoying the tight game.

Agreed- I thought this guy did an especially good job as the home announcer. Didn't even get overly annoying running the one man booth.

No.  UMD scored, we answered.  UMD scored, we answered.  UMD scored, we ran out of time.

Lines tonight were:

Berard - Seger - Malone
Donaldson - Andreev - Stienburg
Penney - Psenicka - O'Leary
Bancroft - Tupker - Wallace

Pairings:

Kempf - Malinski
Mitchell - Rego
Suda - Lagerstrom

Dirven (D) was the extra skater.

My 2 cents: Psenicka was our best forward, Mitchell our best D although I am starting to trust Rego.  O'Leary was all but invisible other than that goal.  Berard was everywhere, Malone was working hard.  Andreev hardly made an impression which surprised me.  Bancroft looks like some weird cross-pollination of Baby and Steve Wilson.  I liked Donaldson's effort but he seemed to be always chasing the play.   Wallace was interesting and then he was hurt.  The only weak spot was, to me, Lagerstrom.  Suda I didn't notice unless he did something wrong, but I didn't notice him much so, um, good?  Shane was good except Jesus fuck those rebounds.

Understatement.  Really nice dish setting up our second goal.

But his move to the goal with around 10min left in the second was insane- I don't think i've ever seen such a high-skill move by one our guys
