Su scored to go up 12-11 then scored again to go up 13-11.  Except the ref made a call on a ball everyone thought was a goal and as SU was stunned, ND ran back and scored won like the next 8 faceoffs SU barely got the ball again and got rolled.

After the game the reds claimed that a save was made and the ball was then carried into the goal by the goalie and thats allowed??  No idea that was a rule in LAX..  Even on the replay it looked like a goal and the save came after the ball crossed the line..

SU was stunned and it showed.

A goal occurs when a "loose ball" passes completely across the line through the plane of the goal. So if a goalie with possession of the ball rears back to pass and the ball passes the plane, that's not a goal. But if he drops it while rearing back and it goes behind the line, it's a goal.

Edit: I looked at the shot on ESPN. In my opinion, that was clearly a goal. For the goal NOT to count, the goalie must be in "possession" of the ball. Possession means a player is able to cradle and pass. The goalie was falling back and did not have possession of the ball. It's hard to believe an NCAA ref would make such a bad call.

The announcers on ACC network said the refs blew the call.

You are correct MIke.  Officially:

Rule 4 Section 11, Article 46 page 40 NCAA Rulebook

"A goalkeeper, in possession of the ball, brings the crosse back
through the plane of the goal. RULING: Legal play, no goal scored. (Only a
loose ball
beyond the plane of the goal counts.) RULING: A goal is awarded to the opposing team."

That was the Syracuse announcing team.  Untroubled by self-doubt.
"Yo Paulie - I don't see no crowd gathering 'round you neither."

Surprise! According to the Ivy League men's lax schedule page (https://ivyleague.com/calendar.aspx?path=mlax&season=2023), we've clinched a spot in the ILT semis and also the final. I believe in Buczek and yeah we've been dominant, but ...

looking at the standings.  if we win sat to get to 4 wins and Penn beats Brown I think we clinch getting in,.

Cornell rises 1 spot to fourth in the week 8 (4/3/23) lacrosse media poll. There are now only four one-loss teams left in D1 (at least in the top 20): Duke, Notre Dame, Cornell and Army. Assuming Cornell gets past Harvard this weekend and Marquette Tuesday, there should be an excellent game at Army April 15, which plays at Colgate April 8. Be nice to see Michael Long back and in action then.

1. Duke
2. Notre Dame
3. Virginia
4. Cornell
5. Maryland
...
7. Army ("Army West Point" as they inflate their name like TOSU)
14. Penn
15. Princeton
Also with votes: Yale, Brown, but no longer Dartmouth. Also Marquette.

Who knows the gametimes of the 2023 Ivy League lacrosse tournament? The league site has revealed, so far, only the dates. Although it's nice to see Cornell penciled in when you choose ivyleague.com Schedule > All Teams (screen grab).

For 2023, it's back at Columbia Friday and Sunday at the (talk about tapping multiple donors) at the Columbia University "Robert K. Kraft Field at Lawrence A. Wien Stadium within the Baker Athletic Complex." https://gocolumbialions.com/news/2023/1/26/general-columbia-to-host-2023-ivy-league-mens-lacrosse-tournament.aspx

If it's like 2022 at Brown, it is:
Seeds 2, 3 Friday 5/5 6 pm
Seeds 1, 4 Friday 5/5 8:30 pm
Finals Sunday, 5/7 12 noon

Yes, I'm a Type A, but even if not, we've got weddings and graduations, weekend art classes, and opening our summer camp to think about. Be nice to know a month in advance.

Harvard is mired at 4-4 overall, with an Ivy win over Brown and an overtime loss to Dartmouth that gave Dartmouth its league first win since 2015. D is the only mutual opponent so far: C win 22-11, H lose 10-9. Harvard is a game Cornell should win but sometimes quirky things happen. 12 noon start time in Cambridge. Cornell makes the 5-1/2 hour bus ride home, classes resume Monday, then Marquette comes in Tuesday.

I was at the Yale-BU lacrosse game earlier this week and was chatting with the parent of a BU player. BU defeated Harvard earlier this season, and lost to Yale Tuesday 17-14 in a game which wasn't as close as the score indicated. In any case, he told me that Yale is definitely a better team than Harvard, and that Cornell shouldn't have any trouble against Harvard itself. Of course we know that doesn't mean anything, and I already got an email from Harvard Athletics this morning promoting tickets to the game with the headline: Big Red on Upset Alert. But barring a poor game on Cornell's part, this should be a game we win.

Hoping Cascadden's injury doesn't slow that down.

I hope to see a going-away win against Harvard, but more I hope to see increasing improvement on offense and defense as we gear up for May. Players need to trust each other, make excellent passes, and move the ball. Against Dartmouth, there were at least two goals off cutters and sharp passes. I know this isn't our bread & butter, but it's a deadly weapon. And it's exciting to see. Teat was a master at hitting cutters from the lefty side. Just a thought.

I will be at the game tomorrow and hoping to see a good effort from the team, though I admit, my recent track record with live Cornell sporting events has been less than stellar:

vs. Princeton Men's Bball Ivy Semis (2022) - 73-77 L
vs. Maryland Lax Championship (2022) - 7-9 L
@BU Men's Hockey (2023) - 3-4 L
vs. BU Men's Hockey NCAAs (2023) - 1-2 L
