Virginia got hammered by Cuse, who are looking more and more like the nation's top team. A Cornell win over the Cavs next Saturday is certainly doable.

virginia could not get the ball against SU , but once the faceoff guy got hurt virginia took control of the game and actually made a pretty good run in the 4th to the point a couple of saves and they probably would have gotten it to a 2-3 goal lead after being down 10+ much of the game.

Sorry, but I can't agree. SU only made 5 saves in the second half, 3 in 3rd and 2 in 4th. So even if no 4th quarter saves were made, that's 2 more goals. Yes a couple of more UVA saves would have helped, but seriously, SU was never at risk of losing. And for the face-off guy being hurt making a big difference, SU's backup won 5/7. That's not much worse than the starter's 15/19. No, let's face it, SU put it to UVA.

it was 12-3 when he got hurt. Virg scored 6 goals after that. SU scored 2 man up goals. that was the other main story of the game outscoring su 5-0 man up mainly because were 7-1 against VU. virg scored 4 goals in 5 min. and took a penalty when it was 12-7 and they had all the momentum and 10 min to go.

the back up won some faceoffs but only because the wings played so well he only won 1 clean himself.

i hope CU can take advantage of the young UV D like SU did.

also it was interesting to hear how SU is dominating faceoffs.. they mentioned how they domtinated faceoffs against cornell too.. yet we won that 14-9.

you look back at the cu-su stats and it was far closer than the score. the rust really hurt CU. the only stat SU won was shots on goal and they led to more scores. CU needs to clean that up

Remember when SU talks about faceoffs, they are compareing it to the horrendous stats they've had recently. Basically the faceoff problems may have been 90% of the reason that they lost last year.

My point about the faceoffs against UVA was that it wasn't the reason that UVA got closer. And when you have that big a lead, you expect it to get closer, regression toward the mean. It's hard to keep the same intensity after you're up that much.

Trying to recall a runaway game getting closer toward the end and the coach, postgame, mentions regression to the mean. Maybe if CalTech played lax and had a grad student coach. He probably gets quoted in the paper as "regression to the meme."
