As a former Cornell Sun sports editor, it pains me to say this. But the quality of the sportswriting in the Michigan Daily when it came to their coverage of the Cornell-Michigan game was far superior to any sportswriting I've seen in the Sun for many years. In addition, it's written on deadline. I just went to the Sun website now, and they still have the game preview up, but nothing about the game itself. The Michigan Daily website, by contrast, had several well-written stories posted online when I checked at 9 a.m. today. We may have won the Cornell-Michigan hockey game, but we got trounced in the college newspaper sportswriting competition.

In a partial defense of The Sun staff....it is spring break.  This wouldn't have an impact on the quality of writing but it would explain why the website is not up-to-date.

As a Sun writer, I'm going to have to turn down this defense. We don't update our website on the weekends, even during the semester. If there was no break right now the article would still not be up until Monday. Also, RichH is right. That article is a lot better than anything I've seen in the pages of the Sun (or written myself).

I think there's still a critical missing frame between the two of the hit. It sure looked on the broadcast like de Swardt made elbow-to-head contact, but I'm also in the probably-should-have-just-been-a-minor boat.

As was mentioned earlier in the thread, Cornell's band played Michigan State's fight song and it's been getting a decent amount of attention on various websites. I'm writing an article for The Sun about this and I'm hoping to talk to some fans who were at the game. Regardless of what effect the Michigan State fight song had on the game or the fans, some fans say the Cornell band established itself as the better band at the game.

Also, I think that the Lynah Faithful and the Pep Band established that we, not the Children of Yost, are still the masters of manipulating and taunting our opponents and that they, the Children of Yost, have much to learn.

I received annoyed phone calls and text messages during the game when my law school classmate and friend (a Michigan alumnus) realized that Cornell was playing the Michigan State fight song.
