Quote from: Aaron M. GriffinSo, we're all celebrating Judy's birthday.

Are there any Michigan-specific chants/taunt that the Faithful have coined during our six games against Michigan for the less important event on Judy's birthday? They will be good both for Green Bay and The Garden (fingers crossed).
Beyond "Get your own chants"?

I like it, but I'm not sure that has quite the requisite zing or sarcasm considering that Michigan admits that they stole them from Cornell in 1991. They laugh about it, acknowledge it, and have screened shirts that read "Michigan Hockey: Cheers invented at Cornell, Perfected at Michigan."

Well, they do the "goal count" slightly differently than we do, which may give us some opportunity for some hijinx.  We go straight from "Davy" into the goal count in-time with the music without prompting.  They sit there holding their fingers in the air and wait for the PA goal announcement.  Then a single member of the band shouts "Goal Count!" and they all reply with "Ready???" before counting off the goals and going into their version of the sieve-IAYF sequence.  An idea to mess with this would be to have several people sitting near the UM band and just start making all sorts of random loud noises (Perhaps a "Let's Go Red!" chant) just as the PA announcement is over. Drown out the cue for them to even start it.

Of course, the ideal situation is for them to never have the opportunity to DO a goal count in the first place. Amiright???

Quote from: Aaron M. GriffinMy comment was one merely that we should consider the importance that our opponent currently gives to a given rival. Also, is Michigan State's fight song that recognizable? I know to Wolverine ears it will be, but will our fans get the joke?

Fair enough.  In the end, I trust the band's judgment, because they're the ones who have to play it, and whatever they decide will be sure to get some smiles.

I figured that Cornell's appearance in the NCAA Tournament and the coming game with Michigan deserved my making of another Cornell hockey video. It has a different tone than the ECAC Tournament video that I made.

Doesn't look like me. My 93 yo mother-in-law is coming. Considering this is my daughter's last year home before college, I think I'm staying here. Don't know how many more ops we'll all get to be together. Hopefully a lot more ops for NCAAs. I'll be at Frozen Four if we're there.

Speaking of that, did others get an email about new procedure for those tickets? We have to watch our email for notation of our chance to purchase. No more sending in credit card and waiting.

Quote from: Aaron M. GriffinI realize. I am a student currently at a Big Ten institution, so I understand the intraconference rivalries and to which sports they pertain generally. However, the newest generation of Children of Yost, I know a few, state that Michigan State hockey is "more cute than something to loathe." The Michigan-Michigan State rivalry was particularly big back in the 1990s when Cornell played at Yost because it was before that era that Michigan State had dominated the rivalry. Michigan was often embarrassed with hordes from East Lansing being able to sell out Yost and have the Wolverines play before a crowd donned in green. I will agree that Ohio State might not be the wisest choice for hockey because other than when Ryan Kesler was there, Ohio State hockey has been basically irrelevant. Most current Michigan fans forget the recent era in modern hockey history when Michigan State, not Michigan, was the dominant hockey program in the state. My comment was one merely that we should consider the importance that our opponent currently gives to a given rival. Also, is Michigan State's fight song that recognizable? I know to Wolverine ears it will be, but will our fans get the joke?
I agree with most of your post, although I think that MSU fans took over Yost more in the late 80's than the 90's.  By the time I was at Michigan for grad school (95-97), many of us made the trip to Munn and MSU fans had a hard time getting tickets to Yost.  Michigan State was loathed and Ohio State was hardly considered for hockey (football was basically the opposite).  I remember rabidly cheering for Ohio State when they beat MSU in OT in the regional stage of the 1998 NCAA hockey tourney, I thought that was great.......

The 2-2 tie at Yost in late 1996 or early 1997 was a great game.  Michigan averaged something like 6 goals a game but could not get untracked and I think their shot count was far lower than typical.  They lost only 4 times that year (2x to MSU in the regular season although we extracted our revenge in the CCHA championship game, barely).  Michigan fans still have a hard time accepting that they didn't win it all that year, because they were even better than the '96 team that won it all.

I'm almost over it.  Such a good team.

Yost is pretty nice but it's not Lynah.

EDIT - I doubt that the average Cornell fan would know MSU's fight song.

Quote from: judyDear Hockey Gods,
Friday is my birthday. Please let me enjoy it. Thanks. Love you! -judy

Note to Hockey Gods: Judy also likes to enjoy the day after her birthday.

(Hockey Gods can be quite literal, you know.  9pm start, maybe an overtime or two...)

Why don't we make it "I'd like to have a great birthday and the next 3.5-4 weeks?" That should cover it, right?

I'd be fine if the hockey gods allowed her to enjoy the entirety of her birthday weekend, Friday-Sunday.
I celebrate Judy's birthday too, if the hockey gods care about that sort of thing.

So, we're all celebrating Judy's birthday.

Beyond "Get your own chants"?

We could have used that against Union.

"Start your own chants" would work better there.

I received that email concerning the Frozen Four and was surprised I am on the list. The last time I purchased was 2003.:`-(

I know a version of "The Victors" that would get you thrown out of Lynah.  Not sure we want to sing that one tho.

What I associate with Michigan:  Mitt Romney, auto bailouts, unemploment, Detroit slums.  Maybe a reference to Toyota could piss 'em off.

Rare is the opportunity for:

Good Red:

Bad Red:
"Mark Mazzoleni looks like a guy whose dog just died out there..."

Good Red, Bad Red.
Good Red, Graying Red.

Still seems a bit subtle. But give it a shot. The Let's Go Red cheers on ESPN NCAA wrestling came through pretty clear. Go for those if the game has quieter moments. Good luck to the faithful in Green Bay.

"You're gonna work for Toyota some day"? Better pacing if you said "the Japs" and let's see how quickly that gets you tossed unless the usher is a WW II Pacific Theater vet. If the Michigan goalie gets chased, we'd be so happy it wouldn't matter what Cornell fans said, but maybe it's not "safety sieve" but "bailout sieve." Michiganders are mighty touchy about how far their auto industry fell even if Ford is world-class now and GM isn't far behind.

I think "'auto bailout' clap clap clapclapclap" could work nicely.

Red said that they're leaving Wednesday evening for Green Bay.  Know what his concern was?  That the kids would be missing two days of school.  He's a good guy (other than the occasional DUI/public urination arrest - there's some fodder for a chant, no?) and he'll sit you down if you're not performing academically.  I would send my boys to play for him if they don't get into Cornell.  ;-)

#4 Michigan did just lose to #13 Ohio U in the basketball tourney.  Not sure how to work that in but it might be worth a shot.
