First two Cornell shots right into Ghitelmann's stick.  3-0 Virginia early.

Langton makes it 3-1; Lang keeps losing the ball at the end of Cornell clears

4-1 Virginia after one.  Cornell hurt by shaky shot selection and turnovers.

Now 5-1

Three forced Pannell passes lead to turnovers

6-1 Shamel on target today, unlike at Foxboro; Cornell offense out of synch; Pannell trying to force things; two close chances missed...Pannell off cross-bar and Ritchie saved by Ghitelmann;  Virginia moving ball on offense much better than in Foxboro, and Cornell is too aggressive with slides, giving UVa space on the off-side.

Another blocked Pannell pass gives UVa the ball with less than a minute in the half; Cornell can't get the ball into the cease area; not only have there been no assisted goals, I don't recall even one assisted shot on goal

Two unsettled situation goals sandwiched around a Pannell wraparound make it 8-2

10-2; just not competitive today

Seeing Virginia's strength and our early season issues makes the NCAA loss to Syracuse all the more painful because we realize the chances won't come every year.

10-2 UVA.  We're playing gamely, but not in their class this year.

scoop85

Hurley stopped at doorstep; Ghittelman playing well for UVA

scoop85

10-2 UVA at end of 3; we look rather impotent on offense.

Small rays of light: Shut down Virginia's EMO. Dunb Cornell mistakes on offense that seem correctable.

I was just thinking the same thing. (As if that game wasn't painful enough.)

Team gets a week to regroup before meeting Yale.  Then Stony Brook, Penn, and Dartmouth before Harvard comes to town.  Still time to get the offense in synch.

I think the D and Fiore have been pretty good. We're just not getting any breathing space in the offensive end.  UVA's D has been really physical -- far superior to their sieve-like effort last season.

While hard to take this type of loss, we still have a lot of season left to improve.

Al DeFlorio

28-20 Virginia in ground balls...that didn't help

Just couldn't get good looks; too many poorly-chosen shots leading to easy saves and the ball going the other way

I agree.  D chased too much in the first period giving open looks--and then got us in a deep hole--but since then has done OK given how poorly we've controlled the ball on O and the number of transition opportunities given to Virginia.

12-4 final.  I didn't see the first quarter, so I'm glad we at least improved defensively as the game progressed.

Wrong, Barry.  Virginia did NOT avenge last year's loss.  We ENDED THEIR FREAKIN SEASON!!! In front of a crowd of 45,000 people. On national TV.

Unlike the 09 Virginia team, we WILL play again next week.
"Yo Paulie - I don't see no crowd gathering 'round you neither."
