It was 38 years ago at Hofstra Stadium that Richie Moran and the 1971 Big Red lacrosse team broke the years of southern lacrosse dominance because for the first time it was a playoff, not a poll where the title was rotated among Maryland, Hopkins, Navy, Virginia, NC, and the like. This year:

2009 D1 lacrosse Final Four: Cornell, Syracuse (upstate) plus Virginia, Duke

D2 Finals: LeMoyne (upstate (Syracuse)) vs. CW Post (downstate)

D3 Finals: Cortland State (upstate) vs. Gettysburg (PA)
