I guess when you're ranking 200 some odd schools it's going to be really hard to have much agreement beyond the top teams.  But the difference between 89 and 41 is crazy big.

More like 350+ teams in Division I.

Last year there were 341 full-fledged Division I basketball teams.

There are another 10-20 "provisional teams" on their way to full membership.  They include a pair of our 2008-2009 opponents (Bryant and South Dakota).

We can make some real noise pretty early in the season IF (and its a big "if") we can advance to MSG in the NIT.

The other 10-20 are the half-fledged D1 teams?

CornellFan

Correct.  Some of those include:

Houston Baptist
Seattle U.
SIU-Edwardsville
Bryant
U. North Dakota (not NDSU, which is already D-I and member of the Summit League)
U. South Dakota (not SDSU, which is already D-I and member of the Summit League)
New Haven (Ct)

The official term for teams in the transition years is "exploratory" Division I.

Cornell will raise our 2008 Ivy League Championship banner to the roof at the home opener v. South Dakota U.

What about the University of Southern North Dakota at Hoople?

"Cornell isn't an organization.  It's a loose affiliation of independent fiefdoms united by a common hockey team."
