Apparently, ESPN's analysis of similarities between teams that pull major upsets (5 seed lines or more) revealed some common characteristics of giant killer... and Cornell fits most of them.

Interestingly, Siena doesn't do very well on ESPN's scale and they are the trendy upset pick, though that has as much to do with the consensus that Vandy got over seeded than it has to do with the Saints.

Based on this analysis, I'm increasing my confidence level for a Cornell win from 7% to 12%.

Very subjective criterion to bestow upon a potential cindarella.

HOWEVER, I thought the most interesting note was that no "Giant Killer" (by their definition, a team that knocks off an opponent seeded #5 or higher), has fit any less than 5 of their 9 categories. Seems there is something to it.

At the very least, Cornell fitting a tourney-high 8 of 9 categories can't be a bad thing.

Well, that's really the round of 32, with her winners making it to the sweet sixteen.  We would play Marquette (or Kentucky) in the next round.  (Edit: I'm slow)

The filled out bracket on the front page of "Page 2" today has Cornell in the Elite 8, beating Stanford, Marquette, and Texas before losing to Michigan State.

I picked Cornell to beat Stanford and then Kentucky, only to lose to Texas in Houston.  Yes, even in the brackets that cost me money.  Do I really believe it could happen?

Well, Stanford only tips off with one senior, too.
