I could never quite commit myself to loving the Bruins, what with Minnesota alumnus Kessel as the only college name I recognized. Bitz joining will make it easier for me to root root root for the home team. :)  Thanks for the link (and for the actually useful anchor text, ahem to another thread)!

Perhaps a positional switch is on the way for Byron? I guess I could see him as a puck-moving D-man.

The Bruins also signed forward prospect Byron Bitz to a two-year, entry-level deal. The 6-foot-4-inch, 220-pound Bitz, the Bruins' fourth-round pick in 2003, signed a two-way contract worth a big league average of $525,000 per year and $62,500 if he dresses for Providence. Bitz also receives an annual $125,000 signing bonus.

"He's very good at cycling and puck possession," said Chiarelli of Bitz, who scored 88 points in 124 games at Cornell. "He played the point on the power play, so he's a versatile player. We're looking to upgrade our size, so we're happy to have him in the mix."

Bitz will participate in the team's development camp, which starts Monday at Ristuccia Arena in Wilmington.
