From the website...

QuoteMilo, a designated hitter, batted .426 with a .754 slugging average in only 61 at bats, splitting time with the hockey team.

That's great for Justin.

UT probably means "utility player", someone who has played multiple positions and is a decent hitter. For example, see the Red Sox's Alex Cora who can play both 2B and SS, and I think 3B if desperate.

KeithK

Hmm, sounds like that could be right.  Seems very odd to have a utility player on an all conference team though.  Just MNSHO.

Well, I think it's odd to have a DH, but I won't complain considering who it is. ;-)

If the league allows DHs, it would be unsporting to not have an award in the category. Utility, OTOH, seems very fantasy-baseball influenced. I almost expect extra awards for CI or MI.

Someone who can play both the middle infield positions is hardly a great example of a utility player. Chone Figgins on the Angels played every position bar catcher and pitcher two years ago, and Miguel Cairo might do the same for the Yankees this season.

To continue the thread drift...

Shane Halter played all nine positions for the Tigers in 2000.

KeithK

That may be true, but typical baseball parlance refers to a backup infielder as a utility player (MLB level anyway).
