When choosing a captain, a leader for the team, leadership qualities are more important than the players stats.  As long as the guys numbers are good enough to keep him in the lineup.
This would be a good time for the annual "What is the Cornell Hockey Association?" question.

Seriously. They appear to be a booster club that sponsors many team related events but they operate clandestinely (or is it covertly?) for the most part with no detectable web presence. I wonder who they are and what their mission is. Is this an organization that I might join as a long-distance supporter of hockey?

A search on elynah revealed similar questions about the CHA over the years with non-definitive answers. The CHA web links are dead.
Actually, you're close to correct. But they operate out in the open, nothing secret. They used to be known as the Cornell Hockey Boosters Assoc.. I believe the name was changed to better fit in with the other "booster" groups, such as CFA (football). They do alot, both for fans and the team. Not only do they do the end of the year dinner, but a welcome picnic in the fall and other events.

At each home game they have a hospitality room with soda and food, and a place to mingle in between periods. After most Sat games they have a post-game reception with food for the team and fans. They also do fundraisers, such as the 50-50 raffle. The monies generated go back to the program in many ways. Some of you remember that they started a discussion about All-Access as they were going to contribute to its cost and held up that till the Athletic Dept discussed the problems.

For away games they organize bus trips and hotels for traveling fans.

There are many other things they are involved with and yes it's a great way to express your support. Some members give $100s of dollars each year to help out in ways that the AD can't. If you're at a game and are interested in more info, you can ask Sue Detzer, I think she's the permanent treasuer or such.

Thanks for the info Jim.

I was being a bit snide, but these days, having no website is tantamount to being a clandestine organization.

It sounds like joining or donating through (or to) them might be a good way to support the team but I am lazy and if they make me type an entire e-mail or do more than a few clicks then that is too much effort.::coffee::

Well, it's also not the only way to support the team.  In fact you can support the team and get a tax deduction for it if you just make a straight gift to Cornell directed to the team.  You'd go to https://www.alumni.cornell.edu/secure/giving/online_giving.cfm and select "Athletics and Physical Education" for designation, then enter "men's hockey" under other gift designation.

The money still goes to the team, and it's not many clicks.  You just won't get any of the benefits the CHA offers for paid membership, like two free Cornell hockey pins every year, or the right to buy Section C or Section N season tickets (or get on the waiting list to do so), or a discount at the post-game "afterglow" dinners.

And if you want to support Cornell Athletics - without directly supporting the not-particularly-underfunded Cornell Athletics - designate the money for the pep band.
