To answer a question in the October thread, the news today from the Hershey Bears is that Sasha Pokulok has been sidelined "indefinitely" with a concussion.

I looked for him the other night when the Phantoms/Bears game was telcast.  He wasn't playing and was listed as having played only one game on the Bears' website.  I figured he must have been injured, but couldn't figure out how to find the details.

The Lebanon Daily News site (ldnews.com) has a regular column called "Bear Tracks" that follows the team pretty thoroughly.

FYI - Doug Murray and the Sharks host the Blueshirts on MSG now.

The Rangers new color guy (I miss you JD) just mentioned Dougie as, "a big kid, who went to Cornell."  Pretty cool stuff, definitely the only collegiate reference of the night.  Man, I hate rooting against Cornellians, but, LGR(angers)...and I hope Dougie plays well.

Didn't see much of Doug down the stretch. Looked like they were rolling their top four D for most of the third. It was also close to 3am and I was barely hanging on, so I may have just been oblivious. Doug had some big hits. I thought he was going to go at it with Orr before it was all said and done, but that never happened.

Joe Micheletti also mentioned Cornell when the Rangers played LeNeveu and his 20 traffic cones. Going from JD to Micheletti is about on par with going from prime rib to a hot dog. And not just because he came from that other New York team, but he played at Minnesota to boot. He had a (grande) cup of coffee in the NHL 25 years ago and makes like that has some relevance on the game today. I guess Rangers fans were lucky to have JD (and Sam) for as long as we did.

Joe Micheletti has never been one to make any relevance of his short NHL stint. In fact, I didn't even know he had a playing career until you just mentioned in here, because he never says boo about it on the air.

If guys like Tim McCarver and Fran Healy are the prototype for making mediocre playing days relevant and prominent in their announcing, Micheletti doesn't beging to sniff that level.

IMO, it's unfair to Joe to describe the transition as prime rib to hot dog.  I find it very similar to the Cohen-to-McCarthy move the Mets radio booth had to make this year.  Cohen was the stalwart, THE radio voice of the team, one of the best announcers in the entire league, and the voice we wanted to hear until he retired. McCarthy took over and his biggest hurdle was that he wasn't Cohen. But if judged on his own merits, he did a pretty solid job.

Actually he's made several references to playing against some now-coaches and other assorted people around the league and has most certanly tried to make it relevant on more than one occasion. It's not necessarily a knock on Joe. He's fine, and better than most other color guys in the league, but when JD sets the bar, just about anyone would be a wiener in comparison.

I agree, Micheletti isn't bad by any stretch of the imagination.  I hardly ever want to van Gogh myself when watching the Rangers broadcast, which is something I can't say for pretty much any baseball or football broadcast I've watched in the past several years.
Additionally, not only is JD the best commentator, but the dynamic he and Sam had (and their mutual ribbing on Trautwig) simply won't be equalled. (/drift)

Joseph gets pulled in the last minute of the 2nd after letting five goals in, and allows only one goal for the rest of the game.

Ugly night for Dave McKee and the Augusta Lynx last night.  Think @Dartmouth last year ugly.  Pensacola got 6 goals in two periods, on something like 23 shots, before Dave got pulled.  Two or three of those goals were skater, goalie, and no defense in sight, but mostly it was just McKee on a very off night.  He wasn't making the saves I expected him to make.  It didn't help that his team seemed to be perpetually on the penalty kill and pretty ineffective on the power play.

Shane Hynes also played for Augusta.  He's still in front of the net on the first power play unit, but didn't have much of a chance to knock pucks in.  -3 on the night, but I thought he played better than that.

Final score was 6-4 Pensacola, bringing their record to 1-7-0; the two teams play again tonight.  I don't expect McKee to be in the net...

Wow, rough night for CuJo letting in goals from the bench.

Oops, I meant Leneveu lets in only one in the remaining time.

I think people's expressions in photos of hits going down are often really interesting.  The spectator on the left looks like he's interviewing someone, the suit on the right looks like he's taking a nap, and #23 there looks like he's trying to remember what he did last night.  None of them seem to realize there's just been a check, or even that there's hockey being played.
