***  UNDERTHRILL!!!  ***

From an article on the C.U. Athletics website:

http://cornellbigred.fansonly.com/sports/m-hockey/spec-rel/040302aaa.html

QuoteUnderhill has been one of the top goalies in the nation for the past two years. This year's G.A.A. of 1.80 ranks fourth on Cornell's all-time season goaltending charts behind Ken Dryden.

Impressive!!!  However, they forgot to factor in one li'l thing:  LeNeveu's 1.50 this year ranks second on "Cornell's all-time season goaltending charts", behind only you-know-who's legendary debut!  (And David's .936 this year was the best since... yep...)  Therefore, technically, Underhill's senior year ranks fifth all-time.

So, Lenny -- as a freshman! -- has already done what I thought I'd never see happen:  He's broken up that solid Top-3 block of Dryden years!!!  ::twitch::  And Undy came darn close to further mayhem in Drydenville!

Now that the Big Red '02 dust has settled... the new order:

Top 10 Goaltending Seasons at Cornell:

1.)  Dryden ('67) ......... 1.46  (.945 / 26-0-1)
2.)  LeNeveu ('02) ... 1.50  (.936 / 11-2-1)
3.)  Dryden ('68) ......... 1.52  (.938 / 25-2-0)
4.)  Dryden ('69) ......... 1.79  (.936 / 25-2-0)
5.)  Underhill ('02) ... 1.80  (.922 / 14-6-1)
6.)  Cropper ('70) ........ 1.87  (.920 / 29-0-0)
7.)  Underhill ('01) ... 1.88  (.928 / 13-8-3)
8.)  McKibbon ('66) ...... 1.94  (.928 / 14-2-0)
9.)  Quarrie ('66) ......... 1.99  (.912 / 8-3-0)
10.)  Burt ('00) ............ 2.35  (.913 / 8-6-1)

Bumped from the Top 10 Seasons this year:

Elliott ('96: 2.35) & Cropper ('71: 2.39)

Another notable bump:  Underhill's career has erased the mighty Dadswell ('85,'86: 3.22) from the Top 10 Careers list!!!

(You know it's Goaltender U. when seasons/careers like those get bumped from the record book!  Damn!)

QuoteAs a junior, [Underhill] posted a 1.88 goals against average and was just the fourth CU goalie to post a season G.A.A. under 2.00 since the 1969-70 season. His career G.A.A. of 2.32 ranks fourth all-time at Cornell.

Really?!  So, then, who are the other three??  I believe Undy is the only C.U. goalie to have a sub-2.00 season since '70!  (Actually, he had TWO of 'em!)  He's the 5th Cornellian ever to accomplish the feat (LeNeveu's the 6th), and he's the only one other than Dryden with multiple sub-2.00's (so far... heh-heh...).  (BTW, I wonder how our two goalies' ECAC numbers (1.52 & 1.54) this year rank all-time in the league... ??)

Anyway...  The important point here is...  Awesome job, Matt!

Bottom line:  Best career G.A.A. since Cropper '71.  Not bad!  :-)
