The Cornell men's lacrosse 2005 schedule has been released. You can see it at the official Cornell Athletics website. (Sorry, I don't know how to post it here without makin' it fugly.)

Only 12 games, after 14 were scheduled last year. No February games--the regular season starts a week later in 2005. Hofstra and Georgetown are gone, as expected. North Carolina is still on the schedule (they were last year too, but the game was cancelled in the wake of George Boiardi's passing). It's still a night game at Chapel Hill in late March, just as scheduled for 2004. After a quick glance, I see no other changes from the expected pattern.

Only unanswered question: A poster at forums.laxpower.com had Cornell playing at the USMA on the same date that Cornell Athletics has Cornell playing Stony Brook.

After taking a closer look at the schedule, I see that I missed something important:

There is indeed a new opponent on the schedule: Notre Dame. The Irish come to Schoellkopf to open the season. Not a bad addition, but certainly not an adequate replacement for Georgetown, either from a strength-of-schedule or recruiting perspective.

Don't know how I missed that.

Actually, only 13 were scheduled last year. I made the same mistake too, but after looking closely I realized the problem was last year's Yale game is listed twice, due to it being postponed. Essentially, the only change is Hostra/GTown is replaced with Notre Dame. Other that that, the scheduled is identical other than the exact dates (teams, order, days of the week, spacing, etc).

Hopefully they can get another strong team on there for 2006 or soon after, but its not too bad.

A quick update on the 2005 Cornell lacrosse schedule:

The conflict on March 12 that was reported earlier appears to have been resolved. According to the Cornell Athletics website, Cornell will be playing the US Military Academy that afternoon at West Point, NY. A game against Stony Brook no longer appears on the schedule. Don't know yet if they'll find another slot for the Seawolves. I wouldn't be surprised if another game pops up somewhere.
