I don't know if this was mentioned, but I was poking around the Coyotes site today, and it looks like Lenny sat out the first training camp scrimmage due to a sprained knee.  Hope it's not too serious.

I didn't know where else to put it, so here's a little snippet I read on a Sharks forum (from a fan who watched the scrimmage):

"PS - Doug Murray made the goof of the game, which might get him sent to Cleveland.

The d-man was alone in his own zone with the puck, telegraphed a pass into the neutral zone, Vinny stole it and passed to Michalek who buried a breakaway shot. Felt like all eyes were on Murray, and he knew he blew it."

Wasn't San Jose expecting him to go to Cleveland anyway?  Or had he played himself into a position where SJ was realistic this year?

On the board, expectations of Doug went through the roof during the scrimmages.  He was hitting everyone in sight and passing the puck well.  The one thing that kept popping up time and time again was his speed and skating abilities.  I think Cornell fans have known that he would end up in Cleveland but the SJ fans thought he might fight for that 6th D spot.  They now realize he needs more time to work on his skating.

In other news...

Baby scored on Byron Dafoe during a scrimmage on Monday using his "suprising quickness."  And during a scrimmage on Wednesday, Baby scored the opening goal for Team B.

The scoring touch came at the perfect time...After the first major round of cuts and reassignments, it looks like Baby and Sam Paolini are still on the Thrashers training camp roster of 43.  Baby may get a call up sometime during the year if the Thrashers have injury problems or late in the season if they can't stay in the playoff hunt.

The Thrashers opened the preseason with a 2-1 win over Tampa Bay but from the game recap and box score it looks like neither Baby nor Paolini saw action in that game.

Joe Nieuwendyk registered 5 points in the Leafs first two exhibition games.

Jean-Marc Pelletier and David LeNeveu were the Coyotes goaltenders on the "Sneak Peak" roster yesterday.  But, as no surprise, neither are on the "2003-2004" roster as is posted on the Coyotes website.

An exciting preseason thus far for Cornell hockey!  From what I've been reading, it seems reasonable to expect Baby and Murray in the big leagues some time next season.

Thanks, Adam.  Great stuff.

Phoenix reassigned G Scott Dickie to Springfield yesterday.  They still have a bunch of netminders to sort out.

Interesting that the Thrashers released Brandon Dietrich while Baby and Paolini remain.

Pete

I didn't see this posted anywhere else,  LeNeveu picked up his first pro win (not counting the summer league) with Springfield on Saturday:

He got the win, which is good I guess, but he isn't going to make it to Phoenix with a .750 save percentage.

The losing goalie was Clemmensen, whose meager college achievement was a national title and four (I think) Frozen Fours with BC.

Section A

Looks like he settled into it after a rough first period; congrats.

Other notes - nice to see he's still #31, and also, JMP got the loss in Springfield's opener against the Providence Bruins.

And Murray got through a game with no penatlies for Cinci...
