Mike did protect the players in the post-game, which is good.  He made a subtle comment on the officiating but didn't belabor it.

The players know this wasn't acceptable and we'll see what they do with it.  Good teams get stronger when shocked.  It's all up to them.

Seems to me if we put more shots on goal or the vicinity of the goal WE might be the ones to get some of those breaks Mike talks about.  We can control our shooting efficiency.  But we don't.  Maybe Greg could start a database that tracks how often each team in the ECAC gets those deflections for goals.  I'd bet we're not in the top half.

And I wish we'd stop complaining about the refs.   RPI does that incessantly and it's crap.  If we're ALL getting screwed then NO ONE is.

99 times out of 100 I'd be with you.  And if anybody has the temerity to claim the refs screwed us against Harvard I'll pitch a fit -- we should have been assessed a minimum of 1 and IMO reasonably 2 delay penalties for the the fuckwits who don't understand NO FISH AFTER THE FIRST PUCK DROP, AT ALL, PERIOD, YOU ASSHOLES.  Ahem.

But.  The final 10 minutes of the Dartmouth game was a tragedy of officiating.  Obviously they didn't lose us the game, we did by suddenly channeling the Alabama-Huntsville penalty kill (disclaimer: I did not research that joke).  But the refs sure did the set design and lighting.

Terrible officiating was a but-for cause of us losing last night's game.

I don't know that there is any data on goals being scored off of the defenders, is there? The only time I see it, is when it's mentioned in discussion, not in box-scores.

In regards to refs, well the end of the game was the worst in a long time. Remember when announcers used to say the refs put their whistle away, well this was the opposite.

Add that to all the goals Dartmouth scored off of CU players, that's the game.

I've wondered for a long time whether Coach's complaining is actually harmful. More complaints means the refs get more annoyed and subconsciously call more against us.

It depends on the refs' overall respect for the coach.  Jack Parker would ride the refs mercilessly, and he was just setting up the next three calls.  He intimidated them, got in their heads, and I am convinced his whining was a net gain for BU.

Earlier in Mike's career I thought it was a boomerrang, particularly because for whatever reason when Mike criticizes it just seems personal.  But in his defense I think he has changed significantly.  First of all I think he used to complain from emotion -- either to fire up the team or because he'd lost his cool.  Now I think he complains because he is trying to manage the refs' attention.  He's getting them ready to call something he's noticed the opponent doing.  Inception, except of course the refs also know he's doing it.  But he doesn't seem like a douche when he does it now, and that makes a difference.  Another guy who has learned the same lesson is Bob Gaudet, and just look how well that served him Saturday.  Contrast this with Pecknold, who is quickly getting the reputation of Jackwagon of the Decade, and who I am convinced costs him team a call a game just because the officials have had enough of him.

Guessing you weren't looking at the Cornell bench late in the third period on Saturday night...   :)

I was, but I think that was warranted, and also it was nothing compared to his tirades as The Young Pope.

Agreed, the Angello kneeing call was one of the worst calls I have ever seen at any level of hockey. Not even in the realm of a legitimate call.
