Cornell getting dominated 14-3 just before the end of the first quarter.  Already given up 187 yards.

Cornell cuts the score to 21-10 on a 5-play, 75-yard drive. Can we maintain this state?

billhoward

Cornell has Colgate pinned down third and 28 deep in Colgate territory, gives up a 27-yard completion and then a first down on fourth down, allows Colgate to drive deep in Cornell territory before settling for a field goal at the end. 24-10, Colgate, at the half.

Colgate methodically marching up and down the field. 31-10 Colgae after three.

billhoward

Up 38-16 with 4 minutes to play, Colgate goes for a first down on fourth-and-one then goes on to score. Colgate 45-16.

Colgate too much. Cornell does capture a fumble and run it in in the last minute. Final, 45-23

Depends on field position.  If they were in field goal range, going for it is more gentlemanly than kicking the field goal.

The gents were inside the Cornell 10. To be fair, we had knocked out their placekicker at the end of the first half and gotten a roughing the kicker call. But if kicker No. 1 isn't coming back, no better place for the No. 2 kicker to get experience than in a game.

I think it would be more sporting for them to take the three points and give us the ball back.  Going for it says they prefer to either run the clock down on offense and possibly get seven more points or pin us deep in our own end.

we'll have to exact our revenge on the ice.....

More Football Logic from our beloved coach:
Ithaca Journal

Quote from: Ithaca Journal"I've said all along that Ithaca High school having a successful program is important for the whole area in terms of popularity and excitement," Knowles said. "When they hired coach Redmond, I thought that was a great choice. He's turned things around faster than anybody thought. I knew he would do it. But hats off to him. Now that you've seen it happen this fast, you're seeing a great ripple effect."

And this from David Murphy '92:
Quote from: Ithaca Journal"I'm sure there's a lot of buzz and good feelings in the halls at the high school. It's the same at Cornell.

Why do football coaches and players have this belief that their entire town's or school's self-esteem and spirits ride on their team?  This isn't Podunk, Texas.

That's right dammit, here our spirits ride on our hockey team...

If you don't think more people get lucky on campus after a huge victory in whatever sport is most popular then you must really still be a freshman :-P

Yeah I know that's not exactly what you're saying but I always felt much more upbeat with my drinking after a victory than after a defeat.
