I was testing out my subscription to the Sioux video feed and caught  Dave Hakstol talking about this weekend. Here are a few excerpts:

Host: "How the heck did you get Cornell in town?"

Hakstol says he talked with Schafer two years ago at some conference in FL and worked out the details since then.

Hakstol: "We've tried to get out east every year. They're a top program, a team that's always in the hunt...a regular for the national tournament."

Host: "They're one of the few ivy league programs that is rich in hockey traditions [ouch]. You have to go head-to-head with them in recruiting, which you don't have to do with other ivy league teams."

Hakstol: "They look to the 60s as their glory years"

Hakstol: "I think they've stayed with their tradition of being very good defensively....SOME good size on D, 3 or 4 big forwards, they have good team speed. They're a team that's willing to win 1-0, 2-1, night in and night out, and they're good at it."

Hakstol: "Scrivens has had a great start. Cornell's a great team defensively, but don't just call them a defensive team."

Hakstol: "There was [sic] two games in a row they gave up 84 shots, Scrivens gave up 1 goal. We know him since his days in the Alberta Junior Hockey League."

Host: "Not exactly what your team needs, isn't it?"

Hakstol seems to think offense is the problem, says defense and goaltending have been ok.

Hakstol spent a few minutes complaining that they "haven't gotten the bounces."

Also says they need to "up our level of compete" over the next few games. What kind of sports jargon is this?

This whole show sounds like it's recorded in a middle school cafeteria.

More on Cornell.

Host: "They haven't been west since they played in the Badgers showdown in '97. "

Coach: "It's been so long, I didn't think they knew how to get to town."

Hahahaha making fun of the idiotic route through Ontario. "They took a bus today up to Hamilton. Time wise, I'm not sure that's the best way to do it."

Host: "Interesting roster, goes from coast to coast, from all over Canada, interesting roster...for an Ivy League team [again!]"

Host: "They always play in Florida and you never do." Sounds like someone needs a break from the NoDak tundra.

I'm done wasting my time with this now.

The coaches show is live in the Green Mill in Grand Forks, ND.

Which we're to guess is a restaurant?  Or bar?  Or grain mill?  :-)

I think the old "coaches corner" show in Ithaca used to be done at the Boatyard Grill, and there would be similar background noise behind Coach Schafer.

Green Mill is a Midwestern chain of great bar/gill. For those in town it is a must see place. The food rocks and the bar prices are not too bad.
