ECAC splits two with Hockey East today...RPI falls to Maine 4-2, but SLU digs deep and comes back from being down 5-4 to UNH with 7 minutes to go in the game, to score two more and win 6-5.

I think the Big Red will collect at least 3 points next weekend with at least a tie at RPI and a win at Union.

Someone obviously hasn't paid any attention to Cornell's history against Union.

Based on the two teams' play, I expect a lot of goals in the third period.

Huh? Cornell's record @ Union in the RS is 8-6-2 (all time) and 4-2-1 since 2000.

It's interesting from the game charts that, if history is all that we have, the Cornell game @ RPI will NOT end in a tie (at least not since 85).

Cornell's record against perennial cellar dweller Union is 8-6-2. On that evidence, assuming a win over Union because they are at the bottom of the league is premature.

Not that it will stop me from making that assumption, but I understand where Tom is coming from.

What he said. Plus, I have a bit of a subjective memory bias - when I first started following the team, Cornell went 0-3-1 in its first four RS games against Union.

According to TBRW, Cornell has done just as well on the road against Colgate as Union in the last 11 years, and has done better at Harvard, RPI, Princeton, Brown, and Vermont (up until 2005). Over that stretch, Union on the road has been about as tough for Cornell as any other team in the league except Dartmouth or Clarkson. (SLU, Yale, and QC have better home records vs. Cornell than Union, but only by 1 or 2 wins).

On the other hand, the fact that Cornell is .500 or better on the road against all but 2 of the other ECAC teams over the past 11 years (not counting this season) is a testament to just how successful the program has been in the recent past.
