Just out of curiousity, what would our record be right now if all the predictions so far had occurred?
03/23/02: Maine 4, Harvard 3
03/28/03: BU 6, Harvard 4
03/26/04: Maine 5, Harvard 4
03/26/05: UNH 3, Harvard 2
03/25/06: Maine 6, Harvard 1

16-4-3

I didn't make predictions for the RMU, RIT, and SHU games but I would have predicted wins for all of them.

Any one missed penalty shot is a bad bounce (ie the law of averages). So is four hit-posts and out on attack, none in. So is one night of going 0x6 on the powerplay. So it's fair for the team through the coach to say, "We need the bounces to go our way." What's left unsaid by the team (though Ari points it out) is that when the bounces don't go your way game after game, then it's clear that it's the powerplay execution that's hurting the powerplay, not the bad bounces.

Looks more and more like the way for Cornell to control its destiny into the NCAAs is win the ECACs outright.

You're just now reaching this conclusion?  What reality were you in all January?  :-)

That is not a bad bounce for our powerplay.  It's practically overachieving.

In response to the article, there is one situation in which coaches, and captains, dependably respond with "we just need to get some bounces."  It's when a team is talent-poor and lucky to be getting the few points that it is.  It's a staple of coaching staffs trying to be supportive of players giving their all, when their all is not nearly enough, because it beats shrugging and saying, "meh, what can ya do?"

Now, we out here nearly all agree this isn't the case with this year's team, but it is a sobering thought, because the Cornell coaching staff is neither stupid nor unobservant.  It could be the team is getting frustrated and pressing and Mike wants to take some of the pressure off of them.  But it is also possible that we are overestimating this crop.  Hopefully untrue -- but possible.

In early January (before we played in January, that is, and maybe actually before we played the second Florida Classic game), it seemed possible for Cornell's freshmen and sophomores to be matured to the point that we'd win out the RS and have enough wins to be going to the Big Skate even if we lost 7-6 to the Cantabs in the ECAC title game. Now it seems as if Cornell-Harvard for the ECAC title would be at best a half-right guess.
