Anyone have any word on why Glover sat out? He was behind the west goal, with crutches by his side.
Don't expect him back any time soon.

Some thoughts 24 hours later:  this early  was hard to tell,    but the  freshman forwards will step in for sure -  Joe Scalli showed some  energy and Mugford - Hornby like hustle on the fore check -  PS Mugford  looked  good.

The number of penalties (2 mins, Holding, Hooking, Obstructuin-interference, Holding   etc)  must have been about  20 or so in 2 periods (No one was going to the box  as format was a fixed  ==  period of time  5 x 5 then  alternating  1 min 5 x 4  alternating  teams for   4 min then more 5 x 5 then some  4 x 4  (end period)  second period was similar  but  2 min power palys  alternating and some  quick  5 x 3 before final 5 x 5 session).   Finish was a shoot out with the whole of each team taking one shot per player.

The directive to college  officials is to continue down the path and direction set by NHL   reach around a guy you have pinned on boards with one arm and get a hold  etc....  Think this was coach  trying to get team  ready for season to come.

Defense is still my main worry,  Mcleod and  Hedge  have size and played a-OK,  but don't think they have speed we will need as rules are enforced more tightly.

Red team had D = Taylor Davenport + Doug Krantz    and  Kevin Mcleod + Evan Salmela

White team D was Jared Seminoff + Matt Hedge   and Justin Krueger + Brendon Nash

Matt Conners also showed fair hustle.   Justin Milo showed some speed and hustle also (note he and Blake Gallagher are only a shade  bigger  than Topher  (1 to 2" and  10 - 15 lbs)  )

I thought Chris Fontas with good size and reach also showed well on face-offs.
Just trying to hit some of the high points that stuck in my memory.

GO BIG RED. (delibrately  didn't comment much on returning players) they all looked A-OK  about what I remembered from last season.

Of the returners I thought Mugford probably looked the most improved--especially his skating.

He didn't score, but I was impressed with some of Tony Romano's moves. He didn't seem out of place with this level of competition, even if the game was only played at 80% speed.

I think my favorite part of the game was the red team's powerplay that consisted of: Topher Scott, Blake Gallagher, Justin Milo, Tony Romano, and Evan Salmela. It was probably the smallest powerplay a big red team has fielded, even in a red/white game like this, in years.

Surgery to correct the chronic hip problem that has affected him for the last couple of seasons.  Not sure when he will be back but I think the idea was to have surgery so he can be 100% when he does get back.

From today's Sun:  "Senior defenseman Dan Glover, who is out until January after hip surgery, did not play."

... not that there's anything wrong with that.
