Starting way pre-game for the 2006 NCAA regional between Cornell and Colorado College. I think we've milked the Albany attendance and Lynah netting issues. [This thread isn't for ride-sharing or room-sharing or tickets.]

One ray of light for Cornell: no classes this week, so it's easier to concentrate on hockey.

Despite our problems, it looks like an even match against CC. Cornell has a good chance to advance. It's not an Olympic width rink, it's not at altitude, it's not CC's home rink or home state.

If players were sick with the flu or colds last week, we can hope they're a) better now as opposed to b) passing it on to teammates. You have to wonder if Cornell's problems against Harvard were a combination of players dressed and skating despite being sick, plus players who're suffering nagging injuries. Every team has injuries late in the season and we were crippled in Ryan Vesce's senior year when he couldn't play at season's end. Maybe this year we're hard hit yet players are still suiting up.

The scouting report seems to be that if we can keep their first line off the board, or keep the game close in the first period, we will be in pretty good shape. CC fans have said that they don't really have depth beyond the first two lines which is an advantage for Cornell. If we can wear down Sertich and Sterling, they don't have big defenseman to hold us off from in front of the net in the third period. The keys of the game will be staying out of the box for Cornell, and keeping Sterling and Sertich under control.

Definitely.  Something Cornell has done very well is shut down prolific scorers.  When they've been beaten, it's usually been by third or fourth line players taking advantage of defensive lapses in the absence of the Red's best defenders.

CC fans on USCHO bemoan their defense.  However, I don't see Cornell really taking advantage of it.  I'd put the over/under on Cornell goals at 2.5; it will then be a matter of defense and poise -- especially the early poise that was lacking in the pair of UNH defeats.

Sertich and Sterling actually play on two different lines.  Think St. Lawrence with more skill.  These guys can fly offensively but are small and not at all strong defensively.  I always thought Cornell matched up very well with SLU so this should be a good thing.

CC has experimented with them together and split up throughout the season. Check out the collegehockeystats.com box scores. It's probably about 65/35 in favor of them being on different lines. It's not out of the question to think they may skate together at even strength Saturday. They are also together on the top PP unit.

All-Access seems pretty optimistic. They have the link up for the regional final already.

Everything I've read tells me that Cornell's defense needs to step up big. These guys aren't big, but they're fast and know how to score goals. We have to keep up with them, wear them down, and take very, very few penalties. We need a good Cornell defensive game. Seems like one of the problems against Sucks was that we let them outskate us. That can't happen.

It's clear that CC has the speed and the talent to put several by McKee, especially if he's having a shaky day. Both our offense and defense need to come ready to play if we're going to have a chance.

Is this a reference to Eddie Skazyk?  He played when I was in school in the early 90's.  I know he wasn't great, but he wasn't that bad.  :-)

Saturday we play the Tigers. You know what that means? Bad news for the tigers!

Stupid question, but someone here will know the answer and I have tried to look it up...

What are the times of the games this weekend?

I'm trying to figure out when I need to leave to get there in time for the first game on Saturday, and I don't want to miss Sunday's game either.

Or CU athletics? http://cornellbigred.collegesports.com/sports/m-hockey/sched/corn-m-hockey-sched.html

Where did you try to look it up?

I found the press release from CC interesting.

It confirms what others have been saying: CC has both skill and weaknesses.

From today's Ithaca Journal:

"Cornell's Chris Abbott, who missed the Harvard game due to injury, will likely be in the lineup for the Big Red against Colorado College, Schafer said ..."
