According to Buffalo Sabres coach, Lindy Ruff after Nieuwendyk crashed a helmetless Chris Drury to ice after a whistle causing a concussion.

I didn't see it, so I can't say, but remember that Lindy Ruff is one of professional sports' world-class whiners.

Based on what? Complaining about an illegal goal that cost the Sabres a chance at the Stanley Cup? Watching a player on the opposing team slam his captain's helmetless head into the ice? I really don't think he "whines" any more than an average hockey coach.

And as was brought up in another thread, why was this completely ignored by the NHL? It was an after the whistle attack on a player without a helmet.

Relax Grant.

Don't get all flustered just because you're going to miss out on the playoffs behind the Isles ;-)

Seriously.

Because once the Isles flame out, you can join us in making fun of them.

I love Nieuwendyk but I have seen replays of this and it looks pretty bad on him.  Since the NHL didn't suspend him, they must believe that it was unintentional though.

Nieuwy certainly has the fact that he has a history of being a very clean player in his side.

Ya know though, that REALLY shouldn't matter... My biggest beef with the NHL lately is the inconsistencies with how they dole out penalties, fines and suspensions... Just because Joey HAS been a clean player doesn't mean he should be allowed to get away with a dirty play now... They should base the penalties on the act itself, NOT on who committed it and definitely NOT on how injured the other player is...

Honestly, I've never thought that Bertuzzi was a dirty player... He is very physical and does get alot of PIMs, but I've never really recalled a cheap shot from him prior to the incident with Moore... That SHOULDN'T matter in deciding how long to suspend a guy for...

The NHL is losing credibility, and losing it quickly... I haven't seen the hit from Joey, but if it is as described (hitting a guy without a helmet after the whistle), then, much as I respect Joey and appreciate him bringing me the Cup twice, he probably should have been suspended for the hit...

I would agree that a player who has previously received a suspension should get hit harder for a 2nd suspension, certainly...

But, if you're going to suspend a guy for a dirty hit, I don't care if his name is Domi, Bertuzzi, or Nieuwendyk... Dirty hit is a dirty hit, no matter who it was...

Anyone seen a comment by Joe anywhere?
