Can't say that I expected that when Cornell went out to Tempe that they'd be trailing in both the polls (13 and 17) and the Pairwise (10 and T17) to the Sun Devils.

And why is the CU ticket office selling tickets for games at Lynah this weekend?

Just curious as to who is footing the bill for ASU's extensive travel budget?

Playing ranked teams around the countr appears to be paying off this year - just look at their record.

Makes we wonder why we do not beef up our schedule a little. Maybe you lose a game or three but the team gets exposed to to flight competition.

Just a thought.

Coach Schafer generally insists that any school we visit will also visit us within a year or two. Some of the powerhouses simply don't care to entertain that kind of arrangement, and frankly they know they don't have to in order to get visits from decent patsies who have no such demands.

FYI - ASU also had two donations totalling $32mm. Possibly much of this is earmarked for the on-campus rink they're building. Maybe some for the travel budget?

Guess that very few college hockey programs are self-supporting? University of MN had $4.7mm in ticket sales and $1.2mm in directed contributions. Coaches sales totalled $800k. Travel expenses were nearly $800k. Equipment cost a bit over $200k. Game expenses $200k. Overhead and admin $1.0mm. Meals $130k. Total operating expenses are $4.5mm compared to $4.7mm in ticket sales and $1.2mm in directed contributions. Essentially they're break-even comparing ticket sales to expenses, decently profitable if you include directed contributions. U MN D1 Economics

I imagine that some of the bigger schools (U Michigan, BC, PSU, U WI) may have similar characteristics. The problem for most others is the expenses probably don't vary that much (other than coaching salaries?) but the revenue and contribution pools are probably much lower.
