I was listening to the Dan Patrick radio show on ESPN on Monday and Dan and Keith Olbermann were reminescing about their Sportscenter days. The 30,000 Sportscenter aired on Sunday night (I do not know if Nykesha Sales counted them to be sure it was indeed the 30,000th). Back when Dan and Keith were doing "The Big Show", they got "called out on the carpet" for calling it "The Big Show" and not Sportscenter.

They then started saying "This is Sportscenter", and Keith said he got the idea from the Cornell Hockey play-by-play man (Grady Whittenburg?) who would  often say "This is Cornell Hockey" during the broadcasts. Although I listened to many of Grady's broadcasts during the 1990's I do not recall that "tag line". I do remember, however, "goal line extended" :).

Olbermann graduated from Cornell in 1979. Was Grady doing the Cornell hockey broadcast then, or was it someone else?

Just curious.

Some of ACMs memories here

Or here for an article by Jayson Moy for USCHO that says Grady Whittenburg began as VBR in the 1990-91 season.

I believe it was Tom Ives doing the broadcasts back in '79

Do you mean Roy Ives with Tom Joseph?

Yep.

(I knew Tom Ives wasn't right  :-P )

Not quite, and actually going up against Sportscenter, so to speak and presumably the new FOX1 sports channel and the Canadian (from TSN??) hosts they are importing, ESPN announced that Olbermann is back.

"Olbermann" weekdays starting 8/26 @ 11 pm on ESPN2
