Cornell is seeded third behind Iowa and Iowa State in this weekend's National Duals competition to be held at the University of Northern Iowa.  Sixteen of the nation's top-rated teams will be wrestling.  Cornell will wrestle Michigan in the first round and, if they advance to the second round, will likely face #6 Ohio State.  Free video of the Duals will be available at www.livesportsvideo.com starting at 9am Saturday and Sunday.

Cornell 23, Michigan 9

Nickerson, Grey, Meagher, Leen, Lewnes, Kerber, and Simaz (Cam beat #4 or #6 Tyrell Todd, who may have wrestled injured) won their matches. Anceravage nipped with a late TD by #1 Luke, 4-3.  Manson and Hammond also beaten.

Next up Ohio State at 5pm EST.  Free live video at the URL above.  Use the camera for mat 4.

This page at TheMat.com has just about every ranking: http://www.themat.com/section.php?section_id=5&page=college_d1

#3 Cornell gets #2 Iowa State tomorrow in the semis.  Noon EST (I'm pretty sure:-P ) at the livesportsvideo.com web site.  I think it's mat 4 again.  #1 Iowa-#4 Nebraska on mat 3, same time.

The brackets Coach Koll sent out (pdf: http://www.intermatwrestle.com/2009%20National%20Duals%20Bracketsd1REVISED.pdf) say that the semifinal matches are at 11.

No prob.  I had a similar confusion posting the time of the OSU match this afternoon.

According to Intermat's rankings, the Iowa State wrestlers, starting at 125, are ranked 5-6-2-11-5-5-8-20-3-3.  Cornell is U-17-U-U-4-1-3-17-17-13.  Nickerson started the year wrestling at 133 so is unranked by Intermat at 125, and Manson and Meagher didn't wrestle until second semester so are also unranked.  To take this match, we'll need wins at 125, 157, 165, 174, and 184, and hold off bonus points at the other weights.  Simaz could surprise at 197 given his performances today.

    CU              ISU
125 U* Nickerson    5 Clark
133 17 Grey         6 Fanthorpe
141 U  Manson       2 Gallick
149 U  Meagher     11 Mueller
157 4  Leen         5 Sanderson
165 1  Lewnes       5 Reader
174 3  Anceravage   U Sorenson
184 17 Kerber      20 Ward
197 17 Simaz        3 Varner
Hwt 13 Hammond      3 Zabriskie

I redid this so I could read it, and figured I may as well post it.

ISU had a rough go of it in the QF against Boise State, with losses by Fanthorpe (not an upset), Mueller (upset), Sanderson (mild upset), Sorenson (major upset**) and Ward (not an upset).

In the opening match, however, ISU skunked Indiana 35-0. Nickerson is going to have his hands full; Clark beat returning NCAA champ Angel Escobedo in that match. I can't imagine that a team with the defending national champion gets shut out very often

* As Al D. noted, Nickerson is unranked at 125 only because he was wrestling at 133 or injured earlier in the year. He will climb the 125 rankings in short order. In his two matches at the duals, he has yet to surrender even an escape point.

** This is the freshman Sorenson's first action for ISU, subbing in for #8 Burk. He lost to an unranked BSU wrestler but beat the #12 ranked Hoosier in the early match.
