I don't think Moulson is expected to replace Vanek- Sabres need big time retooling and getting a return for Vanek is part of that. I suppose it wouldn't be so fair to Buffalo fans to trade Vanek for just picks at the start of the season. That being said, I also wouldn't been surprised to see Moulson moved to a contender around the deadline. Not sure this works too well for the Islanders. Wish the best to Moulson though- 3x 30g seasons and still underrated!

Fun fact-
With 2 goals tonight, Matt Moulson  is one away from #100 for his NHL career total.

Riley Nash recalled by the Hurricanes today... saw it on the ticker of NHL network, which I receive as a consolation prize for being screwed over by Time Warner Cable (and MSG)

Watched the Rangers game yesterday afternoon. Greening looks great positioned in front of the net and seems to be putting home a few pucks as well. With a scarcity of effective power forwards in the league right now, he's going to be a real asset for the Sens.

Yeah, I also get CBS college sports on twcny with the standard cable package...   it's wedged in between a whole bunch of channels I don't receive, so I too was surprised that it worked.

Agreed... in the end I think that Cornell is not particularly effected because we have a different recruitment strategy.

One post on USCHO that got my attention mentioned a potential struggle for the remaining members of the CCHA. I agree that without Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio St, the conference could have a harder time recruiting (decreased interest, less scouting at games, etc.).
The bigger concern for me is that talented players who would otherwise go to remaining WCHA teams (UND, CC, Denver etc.) instead want to play for the Big Ten, which will likely have national TV deals and such.  That being said, could further consolidation of talent/recruiting power out west could put Cornell (and the ECAC) at a disadvantage come NCAA tournament time? Probably not too much, but it's tough enough already.

Apparently the NHL had already scheduled some new padding to be installed on these stanchions prior to the Chara hit. This was according to Brendan Shanahan (now vp of nhl business/development) in an interview on Hockey Night Live. They also compiled a whole bunch of clips showing collisions with these partitions. They look pretty nasty, but apparently (surprisingly?) have not led to many injuries (possibly why the issue wasn't aggressively pursued).

NHL players are aware of the dangerous areas around the benches... especially a veteran defenseman like Chara. In my opinion, rule changes or redesign don't prevent this sort of thing (plenty of players get hurt on dangerous hits without involvement of the turnbuckle). Chara is generally not a dirty player, but he was riding Pacioretty into the boards after the puck was gone (interference), knew who it was (they had an "encounter" of sorts in an earlier game) and took it too far. Although I agree with the league that there probably was not intent to injure, it's certainly a dangerous hit due to the location on the ice. Does changing rules/rink design prevent incidents like this? I doubt it. Hopefully Pacioretty has a quick recovery.

That being said, this is probably a thread for one of the off-topic forums.

Just saw the video-
Paille angles in from behind, leads with an elbow to the head, and leaves his feet on a blindside hit on Sawada.
This should (and very likely will) be a suspension. I hope Sawada's not concussed.

I sometimes complain about players not protecting themselves (esp. along the boards), but this hit was just plain dirty. Even if Sawada's head is up he doesn't see Paille coming. Really dangerous and disrespectful.
