Quote from: TimVBrown shuts out Colgate 5-0 in the "Friendship Tournament in Belfast Ireland.  Announcers said the game was for ECAC points - don't know if that's right.  Brown now gets winner of Mass-Lowell v Northeastern for another OOC game. That Lowell-NEastern game starts shortly on NESN.[/quot

While I have always  respected the hockey knowledge I have seen displayed on this site I must confess, as a native of  the  IRELAND, a sense of disappointment re  knowledge of European political  geography
herein displayed.   To wit:  Belfast - while it  is on the island of Ireland- is correctly (sadly) noted as Belfast, U.K. not part of the 26 County Republic of Ireland.  Ever the pedant!

For those of you traveling to the N.C.  I offer this in the expectation that it will make your homeward journey from SLU
a little quicker:
Appleton Arena is on Miner Street which runs north-south
To avoid traffic, do not proceed north which takes you to Main St (Route 11), Canton.
Proceed south on Miner (a real country road)  to the tee intersection and take a right (Eddy- Pyrites Road - even more
of a country road) which takes you  to Route 11 well south of the village

Also, en route north on 81, exit at the new  Fort Drum exit which speeds you eastward to Route 11

All told this  might save you 20-30 minutes depending on  Route 11 traffic in these two areas

Beware: the NC teams are back

Traveling to the N.C. from points  south and west can entail white knuckle drives
involving the snow belt  combined w/ small town traffic/school buses  and minimal
opportunities to pass on Route

The new connector will scarcely  make a dent if you are seeking to avoid the small towns
in that the I781 exit off 81 is only .7 mile above the normal exit  (Route 342 east)
for Route 11 and points  north.

The best shortcut is to avoid the Village of Canton entirely  entirely by taking Eddy-Pyrites
Road (just south of Canton). This will take you east to the bridge over the Grasse River (dont cross)
where you veer  left (Miner Street) which takes you  directly to Appleton and parking lot. This  Will save you
at least 10-15 minutes on the return leg  southward as you will avoid ALL traffic.

This is the first time this year SLU has been at full strength.

Freshmen defensemen are VERY good  particularly w/ return of Junior  Bagnall

DiVirgilio is strong candidate for Rookie of the Year and is a highlight reel by himself.

Very fast, disciplined  and, as always, well coached.

Weakness is inability to score on PPs and to seemingly let up against weaker opponents.  However, when losing they still manage to dominate w/ SOG. Strength is ability to handle ranked  teams like Vt, Wisconsin and Miami.

As good a team as I have seen in 45 years

Promises to be an exciting game w/ post season repercussions more so for CU.

This  is a VERY exciting SLU squad. Equal to, if not better than ,the Ron Mason led teams of the early 60's and even the teams of the late !980's.

With the return of their #1 defensemen and goalie you should see an improvement in goals allowed . Pesony GA is high, in part, due to frosh defenders.

Their freshman defenseman Generous is as good as it gets and freshman DeVirgilio makes moves that belie his first year status

Marsh led teams are historically stronger post Xmas.  Assuming that they avoid the injury bug - 6 players have been  out at one time -  this team is a NCAA  contender.

Unfortunately they have a tendency to do well against the biggies (UVM, Miami, Wisconsin) and tend to slump a bit when  they face few shots - e.g., RIT where the true count was in excess of 70 SOGs vs 15 for Tech.

Always a pleasure reading posts from the most knowledgeable  college hockey fans.

Having ingratiated  myself my question is:  For many years, along with kindred spirits,  I have visited Lynah to view the SLU game after having partaken of brews at The Chapter House followed by pizza at The Nines.

For a change of pace can anyone recommend someplace to eat that would not overly inconvenience us in that we park at The Chapter House  lot and then walk to  eat in College Town and then over the bridge to Lynah via shanks mare.  Someplace that has a decent tap and  grub?

Your recommendations would be most appreciated

Looking forward to what should be a great game in January.
