Quote from: KenPOur offense seems to have a tougher time in sloppy weather... is anyone worried about the rain tomorrow? Similarly will it hinder Princeton's style of game as much?

20 goals performance in Ivy League Finals, not too shabby.
We also rocked Syracuse for 17 in what was wet weather and terrible field conditions.

Quote from: mike1960This is a very satisfying win, friends.

See you next week!

Edit: I wish ESPN would show the trophy presentation. It's been a long time coming.

Truly great win for Cornell. Took Princeton's best punch and answered with a 10 goal run!
Big Red in a great position for the NCAAs and (finger's crossed) a date for Memorial Day weekend in Boston.

21-14 Cornell. Final Score
Goldstein 5G, 3A; Long 4G, 4A; Kirst 3G, 6A. Big night for the attack trio.
Knust 15 saves. 52%
Cornell Faceoff crew wins 22 of 38. 11 of 15 in 2nd half
Cornell picks up 39 GBs and is +3 in turnover battle.

Once again, opponents get close to Cornell in 2nd half and Cornell goes on run to pull away. (Big Red score 8 of 9 goals from 11minute mark of the 3rd until 6:54 left in the 4th).

Princeton Harvard up next. Starting at 9p.

Syracuse beats ND 14-11 and with Army loss, probably lock up the last at-large bid.

Quote from: mike1960I'm surprised Yale is not posting a shooter in the center of the zone.

The best way to beat a zone is usually place 2 in the crease. Pulls in the far side defender. Attack Bow tie/pick  off each other.

Hat's off to whoever realized the host team should play in the first game, NOT the second. Would suck to be Princeton Harvard right now.

17-12 Big Red with 1 minute to play in the 3rd and we are in a second weather delay.
Yale with the first 2 goals of the 3rd followed by a 5 goal Cornell run.

Quote from: jjanow99Unnecessary roughness on Reeder just before the half. I don't recall if he's played at all this year.

If they don't possess the ball at the end of the half, there would have been a face-off to start the 3rd Q.
Holding the ball ensures possession.

12-9 Cornell end of 1st half.
Yale will start the 2nd half with 50 seconds on man-up.
Leading scorers for Big Red: Goldstein - 3G, Kirst - 2G, Firth - 2G
Knust with 11 save, .553 Save %
Yale with slight advantage on face-offs 12 of 23. GBs +1 Cornell, 20 of 39
Cornell +3 on turnovers (Yale 7, CU 4). Ride has been excellent!

Will need a stronger defense performance in 2nd half. Offense keep churning.

NCAA All Session passes are no longer available.
NCAA offering flash sale (25%). I purchased 4 Lower level seat mid-field for $70 each including fees for the Saturday games.
Sunday games are free entry (except club level).

There is no one-size-fits-all strategy.
Saturdays men's D1 semifinals are the most difficult tickets to get if you want a good seat and you can't purchase through one of the schools represented. Buy early and expect to pay face value. Club seating is limited.
Tickets for Sunday's games can be purchased for less than $10 a seat on any of the secondary markets.
Tickets for Monday's finals: great seats can be purchased late Sat or early Sun on the secondary market as fan bases thin out based on Saturday's outcomes. Usually at a discount from face value but numbers of tickets in great locations will be limited.

Other Sports / Re: Is Cornell v Dartmouth a trap?
April 27, 2025, 09:05:54 AM
Quote from: jjanow99
Quote from: SwampyThis could be a classic trap game. Dartmouth has won some respect this year and has nothing to lose next weekend except their pride. Meanwhile, Cornell might be lulled into a false sense of security by Dartmouth's history & record. Cornell also might be looking ahead to the ILT & Memorial Day.

I guess we have our answer, yes this was  indeed a trap game. Dartmouth goalie made some great safes, and we're fortunate to come out ahead.

Spot on response.
Trap game
Almost "Goalied"
Lesser versions of Cornell lacrosse would have lost this game....this year's squad did enough to win.
Thinks this speaks volumes for the maturity of the players and coaching staff!
Looking forward to May

Quote from: jjanow99What happened on the dual unsportsmanlike calls at the end of the game? Kirst and a Syracuse player.

Someone on Cornell apparently threw it in the empty net when the game was basically over. Cuse fans and players not happy saying it was the equivalent of dunking at the end of a basketball game that was over with the clock running down. Led to some trash talking

Walker Wallace long pole goal from midfield. This was after SU defense landed a few vicious slashes on Kirst and Long as the Red were running out the clock. Syracuse deserved to have that goal scored on them b/c they certainly were chasing Cornell as if the game was still in reach.

Attended today's Big Red - Cuse game.
Thoughts: Solid in all three phases of the game with a truly top shelf offense. Cascadden was good when we needed him, defense rose to the challenge when needed and the offense just keeps producing.
Defense and Knust were outstanding in the first half allowing Cornell to jump out to 5-2 (end 1st), 8-2 (halfway through 2nd), and a 9-5 (halftime)leads. Really impressive in first half despite clearing challenges (6/10 clearing).
Offense was elite today ...moving the ball well (in what was horrible weather) and well balanced (10 different players scored). Both midfield units moved the ball
Game of runs.....Cornell scoring 6 straight in the first half to establish control of the game and a 4 goal run in the third after SU made a strong push out of the half time break. Red scored 4 of the last 5 goals.

The stat sheet looks like a 50/50 game but Cornell controlled long stretches of the game and punched back hard each time it looked like SU would get within a goal. Kelleher juice goal with 2 minutes to play (finally found a short stick after having a long pole on him all day) was the final blow to Syracuse.

Two games left in regular season to fine tune before the post season tourneys.
