I like your line too. It was used at leat twice in the movie, once with his men for motivational reasons and once to the general as an explanation.

Hockey / Time for a change

Definition from the Internet : "Coaching is an art as well as a science. An effective coach understands how to communicate with players in a way that gets results. The goal of coaching is to guide, inspire and empower the athlete to realize and develop his or her potential."
I feel we have had alot of very good players in recent years with alot of offensive talent. But I do not think that talent is being fully utilized. The Big Red has been noted as a very good defensive team in the past. But now with the influx of talented, faster and smaller offensive player, it is time to adjust our game plan to highlight there talents.
Last nights game against Union only highlighted several problem that have been our bain this year. 1. Loss of momentum - Coming out strong and getting a 2 or 3 point lead then going to prevent defense and LOSING. 2. The backdoor - we are leaving it wide open with all our focus on the side with the puck and the opposing teams are working a man to our backdoor and scoring. 3 times last night and last week, Clarkson posted a man there just waiting for the puck . 3. The amount of ice we give up in transition. Clarkson's defenders stayed in our passing lanes within sticks length of the puck and effectively stopped our offense in the neutral zone all too often. 4. Cheerleading and Mentoring - our coaches need to fire themselves up and become part of the game, part of the team and not just inanimate wall flowers on the bench.

IN CLOSING : there is a line by Clint Eastwood from some military movie about Granada where he says - "You have to adapt and improvise!" to his men during a seemless impossible situation. NOW is the time for Mike to listen to these words. Sometimes, the best defense is a good offense, coach the team to their strengths. ADAPT and IMPROVISE ! ! ! !

Ever since he was said to be the "best defensive coach" of 2005, he has been getting his nose rubbed in it. Our teams of late are better at attacking and keeping the other teams off balanced and frustated . SOMETIMES A GOOD OFFENSE IS A GREAT DEFENSE !     And sometimes a team's roster supports a coaching style and other times the coaching style has to adapt and support the skills of the roster !

I hate playing prevent defense, especially in the 3rd period !

Hockey / "Close that back door"
November 10, 2007, 09:11:10 AM
GOOD GAME ! ! !

I am still worried about the back door (back post) being exposed. In the games I've watched, that damn door gets unattended alot. And all that is needs to be done is to set a man to close down that gaping hole. There has been several times I have watched an opposing player camped out there just waiting for the feed.

 Still all-in-all let's celebrate the win !!!!!!

   Hip! Hip! Hoorah!

Hockey / My Thoughts on Penalties
November 04, 2007, 08:53:14 AM
I wonder if there is any way to collarate (SP) when each penalty happens, either on defense or offense.
What I have noticed from the stands is there seems to be a greater number of penalties when we go on the defensive ( I'd say above 80% ).
So if the  offense has just put 3 unanswered points on the board, why go into a (PREVENT DEFENSE) and then start racking up penalties and then skate a man down putting them in a Power Play and letting them get back in the game and letting our momentum slip away.
On our Power Plays, we seem to be able to pass the puck around for extended periods of time before taking a shot ( sometimes most of the 2 minutes ). So why wouldn't it be better to skate offensively and look for the "good shot" on their end of the ice. The benefit would be less penalties, more time off the clock and keeping the momentum in our favor.

GREAT GAME GUYS !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I HATE when any team goes to the "PREVENT DEFENSE", be it NFL, NBA or 8th grade soccer ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Post Game: Cornell 4 Quinnipiac 3

Late in the 3rd period the 2 Cornell Skating Bears substitue in for the last 35 seconds and quickly net goals off a Power Play and a Face-off to win 4 to 3 ...................

I think our players are setting up to close to the opposing team's goalie and when there is a rebound it's already past them when it carreens of the goalie . Princeton picked up several loose pucks because of this.

is it "pass them" or "passed them" or "past them" ?

I agree with Davenport's positoning problems , he left big opening on the other side when he posted up . His body angle was inward to much (closer towards the goal line) ,if he had angled himself more outward he still would had been able to hold the post side closed and also decreased the amount of playing angle on the other side .

But his 5 hole was his weekness last night !

Do you think that if we're saving Scrivens for the next night and Davenport is definitely showing a BAD night, perhaps Di Leo should have been given a shot ?

Hockey / Princeton Postgame

The team looked good but had the Jitters and a goalie with an off night.
The play Mike drew up for the last play worked great, the puck just didn't go in.
I think this is going to be a good team with some more experience. I would like to see "set lines" that have a chance (to jell together) to learn to play with each other. Cause after some time together set lines just seem to know each others style of play and where each other will be and how they will react in certain situations. This creates a syneregy between members of each line and strengthens their play.

Good Game Guys ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Good points All , But it seems that there's more positoning and very little shooting ! Perhap the phrase " if you get a good look take the shot !", should be included . The shot will either go in or give us a chance at the rebound shot . Passing the puck around for 2 minutes while the other team shuts down the shooting lanes of our designated shooters seems inane .
