John Spencer Is Dead / Re: Shaming students into donating

Quote from: Kyle RoseYou know precisely the flaw in this. Once I figured out it was highly unlikely I was ever going to get married, I stopped going to other peoples' weddings.  I went to my high school best friend's wedding back in 2002, and haven't been to one since.
Is that all a wedding is? A fancy gift exchange? Show up at the wedding. If you are invited, your friends want you there more than they want the fucking toaster.

I believe the costs that were being referred to include some mix of the following: Taking 1 or more days off work to travel, Renting a tux, getting a hotel room, renting a car, etc.

I know I spent a pretty healthy chunk of change to be able to attend a friends wedding this summer, but I think I got some of it back at the open bar.

Quote from: cth95You don't have to quite cross the border.  We get Canadian TV here in northern VT, and I know they get it in the North Country (NY), too.
OK, but if I had to choose between living in Potsdam and living in Canada, I know which I'd pick.

Dude, beer is expensive in canada... let me rephrase... everything is expensive in canada.

Quote from: ursusminorWhy can no one spell Rensselaer correctly? I guess that I just did.
It's not hard at all to spell.  R-P-I.

The Potsdam contingent usually spells it R-I-P. :-D

That is the correct spelling. Not our fault your jersey company puts the letters on wrong every year.

Quote from: RatushnyFanAntlers was great - hope it still is.  And Joe your name used to be the place in town - Joe's.  But I guess it changed ownership and isn't as good.  And don't forget popcorn at Dunbars if you only have enough money for beer.  Ithaca Bakery is great for lunch.  Moosewood is worth a try if you're open to vegetarian cuisine.  Ruloff's is a good place for a date - took my future wife there on our first date!  (she had the fajitas and liked them)

Antlers is still there, and still amazing. The Fillet Minion is well worth it.

Can't beat the nines for deep dish.

Boatyard grill is pretty good.

if you want artery clogging chicken wings, Wings Over Ithaca has a flavor of wings for everyone.

Ruloff's also has pretty good burgers.

I guess this fits in this thread as well as any others.

Anyone have any strong opinions either way on any particular e-readers? I have been looking at getting one, just not sure yet.

It's not really literature, but I am currently speeding through (no pun intended) "Go Like Hell: Ford, Ferrari, and their battle for speed and glory at Le Mans" by A.J. Baime.

pretty good most gear heads would like in my opinion.

Hockey / Re: Why the hate/dislike of Cornell?

Quote from: HeafDogWe earned the victory, and we earned the right to celebrate.

Not trying to start anything (but it probably will).

But what exactly did you (meaning the cornell fans as a whole) to ensure victory? Sure you supported the team, and you yelled really loud. I would hardly say that those things entitle you to say that you "earned the victory" is stretching the truth just a little wouldn't you say?

And this isn't a "I hate cornell" thing. I feel the same way about all sports fans, friendly or unfriendly, who say similar things. "We" should only be used to refer to other fans in my opinion.

More on topic, I don't like the "Winning team, losing Team" thing, but those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Carry on as you see fit.

Quote from: Come on, those stills are terrible. The skates are blurred and the picture is from a top angle. From that angle you can't tell if his skates are touching the ice. View the video, he certainly had a jumping motion, off the ice and back down. Stop the video at 11 seconds and look.

I've paused it at several spots on the attached video. Pre-contact, Frettin's feet are still on the ice. Then there's contact. Then Frettin's feet leave the ice after contact has already been made. For those of you who didn't play in checking leagues, the force from a hard hit often propels both players off the ice. Also you can't discredit the stills and then base your argument on a similar resolution video.
I can believe that.  So what is the letter of the rule? If the force of the hit causes propels the hitter off the ice is it by definition an illegal hit?  Is it only leaving your feet beforehand?  Intent to do so?

I'm asking about the letter here, not the squishy "referees shouldn't enforce that" part (which I sometimes agree with).
As I said before, it's an illegal hit because he hit his head. It's dangerous and isn't allowed. One player had his feet jump off the ice, the other players feet left the ice because he was hit high and flattened. You can try and make it OK as much as you like, but the powers to be don't agree, and I'm glad they don't. Remind me not to play in your league; I'd like to leave with my mental capacity intact. Oh, maybe that's the problem.::smashfreak::

For once, I completely agree with Jim. Hits to the head need to be eliminated from the game of Hockey. No one deserves to be permanently harmed from playing hockey, and head injuries are a heartless bitch.

I'd rather they go after Leaman or Appert.

They can have Roll.

Got back from Minnesota today and just wanted to congratulate Cornell on their Frozen Four birth. Give them hell for the ECACH.

One of the greatest celebrations I've ever heard. I take back every negative thing I've ever said about women's hockey. And fuck the IOC for giving the women grief over this.

The day that celebrations cannot be had, is the day the terrorists have won!

Wow, what a dick.

I love how you didn't bother to mention that 27 of them came from some sort of scuffle at the end of the game, or that Brown had 39 minutes. Don't worry, I wouldn't want you to even imagine that maybe a game at Brown could have a lot of penalties or that Clarkson isn't a bunch of thugs.

You're not going to make a lot of friends here calling someone that I've heard multiple people refer to as the "nicest guy you'd ever want to meet" a dick. The smiley face at the end of his comment seemed to be a pretty strong indication that he was joking.

Lighten up, Francis!

The dick comment was meant mostly in jest also, sorry I forgot the emoticon. I'll have to work on properly expressing my emotions on the internet through small little pictures with ambiguous meaning.
