Hockey / Re: Princeton Post-game

Quote from: Jacob '06It was a great effort by the team to battle back to get in the game, but I feel like they could have done a better job of capitalizing on 2 full minutes of 5 on 3. (by the way, can someone explain what happened for those 2 penalties? you can't actually understand the announcer inside the arena so we had no idea whether it was 2 penalties on the play or a penalty and then an extra one for all the whining and delaying after it)

Over the Princeton audio feed, it sounded like the first penalty was for the infraction on the play, while the second was a bench minor for the excessive whining to which you alluded.

I saw them lose 4-1 at BC earlier this month - on that night, they looked beatable.  Their PP didn't do much that night, but that was because BC did a very good job of moving the box around to shut down the shooting lanes.  Their powerplay did seem capable, though.

Northeastern did dominate at times within the game, but BC played the better game that night.  Overall, they struck me as a solid all-around team, maybe similar to Princeton in that regard.  The Northeastern fans were loud and dedicated the whole game - they reminded me of the Faithful.

Based on the other options, I think it's a pretty good first-round draw for us.  It seems more likely that we'll be able to get them to play our style (which probably isn't terribly far from their style) than trying to slow down a team like Yale.  First team to three goals might be the winner here...

On the whole, comments here over the last year have been nothing but supportive for Justin and his future endeavors. No reason the Lynah Faithful shouldn't remain on the high road.[/quote]

Well said, sir.  Truly, you are both a gentleman and a scholar.

I considered mentioning that the "wench" part was nearly priceless, but unfortunately, it just didn't fit the structure of the joke...Interestingly, they do sell "Wench" t-shirts and hats for the ladies at Medieval Times.  Of course, not being allowed to say "Harvard" at Medieval Times is anything but priceless.  Lousy family-friendly atmospheres that are brimming with violence...

The Clarkson pep band makes baby Jesus cry.  At least the obnoxious and constant nautical noises cover them up from time to time.

From the Ithaca Journal article:

Sacred Heart scoring leaders

   * Pierre-Luc O'Brien (12-18-30); Bear Trapp 9-16-25; Alexandre Parent (9-13-22)

Mr. and Mrs. Trapp have a wonderful sense of humor.

I just spent 5 hours on the road to get here for the game.  Once again, Scott Hansen finds a way to screw me over.

Perhaps I'm only seeing it because I'm looking for it, but it seems like (since I arrived at Cornell for the '00-'01 season) we have a tendency to wait until every man on the ice is exactly where he wants to be before we attempt to break out of our zone.  Given the trouble we seem to have doing that, I wonder if we wouldn't be better off being a little more aggressive in that aspect.  Aside from our terrible defensive zone play, the most disappointing moment of the game was definitely the Bobcat chicken dance during the first intermission.  I just can't understand why they didn't bring out the Skate-a-saurus to fight him for the rights to that song.

While it's an admittedly small sample size, I'm a little concerned that we came out so flat for the start of the 3rd period two nights in a row.  However, I will agree that with the exception of the poor play in our own end and some questionable decisions throughout the game, we did outplay Quinnipiac for the most part.

I'm encouraged by the hustle we showed while forechecking this weekend.  Sawada's hard work led to a goal the other night.

Beeeej, it was a pleasure to have you join me on the percussion last night.  You did a fine job and it was nice to have somebody next to me who knows hockey.  It makes the game that much more enjoyable, even in a loss.

Finally, given Colgate's slow start to the season, how will this play out for us over the remainder of the season?  We've gotten used to having a very strong travel partner in recent years - can they step it up to make us a more dangerous pair?  It seems like there is a lot of parity between the travel partners at this point, with the North Country trip being slightly tougher than the rest.  Thoughts?

I believe that was SLU(t) with the high school rent-a-band.  The alumni band is planning on bringing about 25 for tonight's game, so we'll be able to make some noise.

As discussed with ugarte on the slightly too early train back to Penn Station, I do agree that Davenport gives up a few too many rebounds and leaves the net too often for me to be totally comfortable.  At the same time, however, he was pretty solid positionally and I really can't fault him on either of the two goals allowed.  The second one appeared to be redirected on the way in through traffic.

Regarding Nash, I wasn't especially impressed with his defense, although he did step around a Princeton player (who was probably distracted by watching Goeckner-Zoeller trip over his own name) to set up one of our goals.

The intensity didn't seem to be there in the 3rd period - the team looked very tentative.  I'd imagine we can probably put this down as a learning experience for the young team, which is especially nice since we can also put it down in the W column.

Faceoffs are currently 23-7 Cornell according to GameTracker.  Most notably, Bitz, Fontas, and Scott are a combined 13-1.

Bitz 6-1
Fontas 4-0
Scott 3-0
